i think what he is trying to say is that you have an answer for everything, what you might want to do is check out ARB, they are built to hit kangaroo's and emu's in australia and deer and mini coopers in the US without destroying the vehicle or rendering it immovable. i have run into a couple of tree's while offroading, not big ones but ones that would bend or fracture a factory bumper, hit the bottom of ditches incredibly hard and generally just used it as an extension of my frame. the funny thing is, is that it has "crumple" zones also, they just arent as forgiving or, if you will, weak, as stock OEM crumple zones. which you can see in the following photo...

I live in upstate NY (Albany) and I just bought a grill guard and bumper guard. I've decided I will not take these mine off and if I do get I ticket I'll contact the local news and make a big stink.
Are the people on this committee state senators or what? Is anyone planning on contacting them because I think I will.
Moreover, I could have sworn airbags are deployed by two types of sensors: roll sensors and accelerometers. The first determines your pitch or roll relative to gravity (i.e. if you are close to tipping) and the other senses how fast your vehicle decelerates (i.e. hitting a brick wall slows you down fast). Anyone know if there any other airbag type sensors out there? I can't possibly see how a grill guard could interfere with either. If I'm right and I think I am that kinda destroys a large part of the argument.
Maybe I can go to meeting because I live in Albany. Hmmmm...

Last time I check, someone is paying for this site to run. Hense it can be censored any way the owner pleases. The right of free speech may not apply in a controlled enviroment such as a PRIVATE forum.

I think that your front airbags are deployed when the sensors under your hood activate. And they activate only when your front end deforms in a crash.
The "roll" sensors have to do with your side-curtain airbags if you have them.
Airbags have nothing to do with accelerometers. In some highend cars (Mercedes S-class or Lexus LS430), accelerometers are installed to predict an impending accident. When this happens, front seats become more upright, sunroof closes, doors lock, etc.. However, front airbags have nothing to do with these sensors.

Why not start a petition here.
People could add their name to the petition.
Alternatively, get the names of who to petition, their email or mailing address details. Write a standard letter of petition and post here. Then people can cut and paste to support the cause.
I think everyone should be a little concerned about this type of law as it may have ramifications for other states in the future.

We (admins & mods) try not to censor anything unless the forum rules are broken. However, at the same time, we are more interested in the welfare of the WHOLE forum rather than one particular individual. So, if you think that this forum is too tightly controlled, then i encourage you to visit other forums. I can recommend several to you if you insist.

here's my take on this:
1. we need to do something about this as it not only affects those living in NY but those that DRIVE THROUGH NY as well.
2. personally the brush guards (manik, jaos to name a few) are worthless $$ junk that do not do anything but cause more $$ in an accident.
3. those that truly offroad a lot definitely would benefit from a bull bar as this becomes an integral part of the recovery gear. Think winch, hi-lift jack point, tow point, etc. Also approach angle is greatly improved and you don't have to worry about damaging your stock bumper.
4. those that live in the backcountry will benefit from a bull bar as it will protect the occupants of the vehicle from any wildlife that decides to stand in the middle of the road.

Roll sensors (you probably mean yaw sensors) or accelerometeres have nothing todo with air bag deployment.

That doesn't make any sense. Even if NY passed the bill into law, it should only apply to NYS registered vehicles. It would be beyond ridiculous to expect people in other states to remove their guards because they are driving through NY.
Do people in Florida have to remove their dark window tint when they are driving their cars in NJ?
