I got a grease gun but when I try to fill the fittings, the grease does not seem to be going in, it just oozes out around the sides.

Do I have to get a different fitting for the gun? Is the zerk fitting itself possibly stuck?

-Thnx

Make sure the tip of the grease gun is going on the zerk all the way. If it's a new gun, the tip is probably very tight, and it will be obvious when it pops on all the way. However, be prepared for it to be very difficult to pull off the zerk as well! I bought an inexpensive gun and then wound up buying a better tip for it, which helped some to get it on and off.

Also, sometimes the ball bearing on the zerk fitting will be stuck and needs to be "poked" in a bit.

This happens quite frequently on the zerj fittings we use in the offshore industry. I've worked on boats that almost every fitting will have a stuck bearing and you have to poke it w/ a knife tip to loosen it up.

Like said before, it should be pretty obvious that it "pops" on to the fitting and can be tight to get off. Sometimes being sure that you are holding the guns tip in line w/ the zerk will help too.....HTH

PS- are you greasing the driveshaft fittings? If so a flexible hose tip makes that much easier.
