Exactly what identifies the runner as a "Highlander"? I recently bought a '99 SR5 4x4 Auto for my son, Its got the hood scoop, electric rear diff-loc, imperial jade mica paint, black fender trim, sun/moon roof, color keyed bumpers with factory foglights in the lower bumper valence right next to the turn signals with the fog light switch on the headlight switch stalk. Is it a Highlander?
Is there a VIN code somewhere that lets you know for sure?
He had the factory running boards, but he took them off the other day,and it looks a whole lot better.
Paid $5K for it. think we got a good deal.

I don't know what all makes it a highlander...I think I know, but I'll defer that question to RonMaiden...
I do know that this particular 4Runner DOES NOT have the factory locker. What you see near the steering wheel is the factory alarm lamp. I know because I just got off the phone with that dealer.

Yes sir it is. They only came in Black and Green and they have what you describe.

The VIN is specific to the Highlander/sport package and even my insurance card states 4Runner SR5/Sport. The only place "Highlander" appears is on the window sticker and maybe some other paperwork.

No. The "real wood" option I believe is all stick on. I have the fake wood grain and it's just painted on

want another 4runner and would like the Highlander edition. What is specific to the VIN to determine whether it is a Highlander or not? I know about black or green but couldn't tell whether that was an e-locker in pic :AK47:

Ok, just to be thorough...that is not the RR DIFF LOCK button in the picture. It is the ALARM light thingy. This looks like a really nice truck, and is definitely worth a look, but it does not have the locker.:thumb3:

If you need the VIN code and can't tell if it's a Highlander or not by looking at it and you're not sure about what features Highlanders even have, then why is it so important that the one you get is a Highlander? Why not just a Limted or SR5. IMO, A '99 Limited has better features like AWD/4x4 which the '99 Highlander doesn't have, and they both came with optional rear lockers (so did the SR5s too). I would rather have the AWD feature than a faux hood scoop.
