Newbie looking for some answers

Hi guys, I just purchased a 2008 v6 w/48k miles. So far very happy with it, but there are a few areas for improvement since it’s pretty much stock. I’ll be installing HIDs with the XD kit, adding a spoiler, and possibly the LED dash light mod. Just a few questions as I get my feet wet in the T4R world:

• I can switch from 2Lo to 4Hi while driving without damaging anything, right?
• The storage compartment on the Right side of the cargo area looks like it was made for something? Is there something that should go there? What do you put there?
• Regarding the LED dash light mod. Does anyone know if I will loose dimming capabilities by doing this?
• If I do the LED mod and switch everything to white, what about the clock and radio? Any way to change those backlights?
• I want to put in an in-dash Navi/Reciever/CD/etc, any recommendations? Not looking at blowing too much money on this one.
• I'm also planning on doing the Differential/Transfer case breather extension, because I will be fording about 18"-24" streams every winter. Any other mods that I should make to prepare?
• Any accessories or modifications that you are think are worth the time and money?

I think you mean 2hi to 4 hi. you cannot switch from low to high while moving. You can switch between 2 and 4 Hi while moving under 60 mph, but make sure you are going in a straight line and your wheels are not slipping.

You transfer case breather is at 27 inches. The rear differential is what you want to extend. I would seriously rethink anything deeper than 18 inches unless you are comfortable with the possibilty of water coming through the doors, chronic long term electrical problems, and even the possibility of worse if you misjudge depth. If you are serious about 2 foot crossings you might be able to justify a lift and larger tires. You rear diff breather is at 18", although you can probably go through deeper water without taking much in, the breather mod is cheap simple and worthwhile.

Your right. That's what I get for not proofreading - I meant 2hi to 4hi . I'm sure 18" is as deep as my route gets (if that) but I just wanted to be sure. It's just a stretch of road that floods when heavy rainfall forces the nearby stream to overflow. It's generally passable by most 4wd vehicles, but sometimes they shut it down and only allow semi trucks to pass. It's freshwater, but I just didn't want to invite trouble by not preparing. Anything else?

I am not really an expert on water crossing, but in general, I think you'll be fine. Once you get above the doors your truck starts floating and you lose traction. You probably don't want that. You are on a road so traction should be good otherwise, and there shouldn't be surprize rocks or holes. I guess there is a chance of geting water into the wheel bearing and CV boots, but if you don't stop in the water, I would doubt it. The rear breather mod is worthwhile. I think there is a sticky in the offroad section on this.
