Newbie Needs Advice on Buying Dilema

Hi All, Here's my dilema. My 2003 Pathfinder has proven to be a nightmare. Another $3k bill is on the horizon. I want to get back to my roots which is Toyota. I just started shopping last Saturday after hearing from my mechanic.

Question # 1 Can anyone who has the Xreas Shocks give me advice if they are worth it. I want a 06 limited with Xreas and the only one within 750 miles is at a dealer who doesn't want to deal.
Is the Xreas worth it?

Question #2 Does anyone know how Toyota handles their incentives in November. Right now there is a $1,500 incentive on 06's, however the new incentives kick in November 1st. Does Toyota Incent the leftovers even more the last two months of the year?

Can't help with #1, but I can tell you that Chicago is already at $2000 on '06's today. Toyota doesn't automatically adjust incentives based on time. If enough units move, they'll stay the same; if not, they'll get better. It all depends on sales in your region. Odds are pretty good that the incentive won't go down... there's been an incentive of at least $1000 evey month since March in the Chicago area. (That's when I first started watching!)

Thanks toto and Jonas. The Xreas sound like they're definitely worth it. Here in PA I understand the first half of 06 all the limited came in with the Xreas shocks, however the second half none of them did. It's tough for the dealers to really bargain on a vehicle they don't have.

Unfortunately with the heat on the Pathfinder completly out and both mufflers now shot I'm going to have to make a decision on which way to go real soon. Current plan is to wait until this Wednesday and hope Toyota announces even better incentives getting me into the range of the Limited v8 with the Xreas.

Regardless of my outcome I've done a lot of research on the Internet for vehicles and can't remember ever seeing one so highly rated by Editors and Consumers as I have the 4Runner. Congrats on your great choices!
 
XREAS suspension

I have an 06 SE with the XREAS and like the ride a lot. XREAS puts the "sport" in Sport Edition. It might be marginally firmer than the standard but I have definitely noticed that it holds level very well when I have had to make a (rare) quick turn or U turn.
 
Pathfinder Issues

Hi Koz, Here are the problems I've had with the 2003 SE Pathfinder over the last three years. The front brakes went rapidly and chewed the rotors up at 17,000 miles. The exhaust tubes coming out of the catalytic converter went at 31k miles, this could have cost me over $1,500 however Nissan covered the cost of the parts. I'm through my second set of tires at 58k some miles as I have trouble keep it aligned. Those same front brakes need replaced again.

The latest is the entire exhaust has rotted out from the converters back including both mufflers. The heater fan gave up two weeks ago and something callled Q-linkage is shot. I've taken great care of this truck and she's only been off road a couple of times and that was in some snow covered fields. I realize things will happen with this many miles, but since I'm the only Driver and bought it new I'm question what's next.
 
Got One!!

Hi Guys, Just want to drop a quick line saying thanks for the help. On Saturday I picked up a Shadow Mica Limited V8 with the Xreas suspension in Cincinnati of all places. I'm very pleased with it so far and I appreciate the help offered.

To help anyone shopping for a new 4Runner make sure to check other regions out before you buy. In Western PA there was a $500 dollar incentive on 07's in Cinncy there was over $1,500 in incentives. Made my way out the door for $37,865 on a $42K msrp Limited including trade where I received well over Kelly Blue Book. The 5 hour trip to Cinncy saved me well over a couple thousand if not more. I'll spend any Saturday driving to save a couple thousand.

Can't wait to become a regular here once I figure out what all the bells and whistles on this thing does. Thanks again for your time.

At least the Pathfinder made it to Cincy for the trade! Welcome, you made the right choice!

It's to bad the Pathfinder gets such a bad rap these days. That was one of my favorite SUV's. Nissan needs to get it together!
