Newbie question

Just found this site and am finding a wealth of info.
I have an 04 4Runner and have been bumped in the front bumper twice and the back bumper once....a consequence of living in NY.
The damage is strictly cosmetic so I think I can replace it myself. Actually, I am certain I can replace the back bumper myself (it is just the center part) but am unsure about the front.
My question is does anyone know where I can get the replacement bumper for the back? I found a place online and they wanted $64 for the part (good deal right?) but they wanted $150 for shipping. I couldn't understand it either but that's what they said.
Then for the front I need to know of a site where I could buy the bumper and is it difficult to install?
Recommendations on grille and bumper guards (with pics) would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the board. Sorry to hear about your problems. I have heard from some other members that their rides take a beating in New York. Some of them have added either brush guards or bull bars on the front and a bumper guard on the back. If you do some searching, you will be able to find their threads.

Again, welcome.

After seeing these pics, i will have a hard time sleeping. And if we ever drive to New York, we are taking the wife's car...:D

the worst part is it all happened in the same parking lot (gym that is located in a supermarket strip mall). How they managed to put a hole (yes, you can actually see through the bumper) in the top of the bumper like that I don't know.
I live about an hour from NYC and there is a Hasidic community not far from here....
Anyways...lol....thanks for the recommendations. Once I get these fixed I will def. be interested in the grille guards.

Goss...

thats a major bummer.. I'd go with Momo.. get some front/rear protection in the form of guards/bars or a step bar for the rear. Maybe even mount the tow-hitch..

Welcome to the board. Sorry to see your bumpers looking like that. Whenever I leave my truck in NY, I always cringe. I have seen some people parallel park on a NY street and it looks like a big version of bumper cars. It seems like they don't look and stop when they hear the crunch.

Leave the bumpers, you live in the city why pay to replace the bumpers only to have them hit again, wait 2 or 3 years then replace them when their completely trashed, hey look at the bright side someone parks to close now you can hit them:)

When I was in New York a few months ago that is what my rental car looked like.:D But I agree you need to put some kind of protection. People just do not care out there.

I agree with Edge. Why replace them when the new ones will just end up the same way in a short while. Besides, they don't look THAT bad. I expect that mine will look similar if I ever get a chance to get out of the office and into the woods.

I actually live in the suburbs. I commute to the city everyday by bus but occasionally bring the 4runner. When I drive in she goes in a garage and luckily I have never had a problem with that (for $40 for 6 hours it should come out just as I put it in).
The damage actually occurred in a parking lot near my house. I got hit twice in the front and once in the back, different occasions but all while in the gym.
I want to replace the bumpers and then get the grille guards.

One day I am going to come out and see someone hitting me and I am gonna completely lose it....its gonna be ugly.

hey!!!!!!
I'm from nyc (bronx) and front and rear protector was the first thing I got. I have my truck for over a year and my bumpers are like show room.
