Heres why I think that would be annoying as hell.
1. You would be required to remove it EVERY time you got in or out. Otherwise you just plasted a huge reason to break in. Not only that, but those things are not designed to be constintly plugged in. It would destroy your battery in about a month. Also, the heat. If you did say "F'it" and left it in, well, sun would destroy that battery.
2. I know it looks cool. But that would be really bad while driving. Think about it.... a good head unit is designed to make easy and efficient use of hand movements so YOU don't need to speed much time there. Every millisecond your staring there and not on the road is 1 more you can die.
Finally. I won't harp on it, but it is quickly coming that things like this are going to be made illegal to use while driving. Hard to enforce you bet ya, but there is a reason.
For about the past 40 years, highway deaths were dropping. Due to better cars, better training.. and graduated drivers lic. Well, they are spiking, again.. and it is overwhelmingly due to ****ing teenagers on cell phones.
I don't think they should be illegal. That isn't what I am saying. But enough of those kids get them selves ****ing killed and it will spoil it for everyone.
You take a 16-24 year old driver, (worst drivers in society by every way measurable) and then give them these shinny complicated devices and it spells death.
So what is gonna happen is, one kid is gonna do something like this.. go out and get him and his 4 friends killed, and Momma bear is going to start an orginaization.... and they will get a TON of followerers.
Why you ask? Because these things are getting people killed left and right. Texting, calling, tinkering. And more and more people will know someone affected by it. It is the DUI scare of the late 70's all over. Until, eventually, it will get to Congress.
Now, I work in Congress, and I can tell you with 100% certainty what will happen. Very few laws pass with over whelming support on both sides. The ones that do usually have 1 thing in common.
KIDS. So, mommas will storm Congress. ATT and others will agree (they are tired of being sued by parents, JUST LIKE the BEER companies agreed in the 70's) and so.. you will have 0 Resistance.
Since Congress can't make these illegal at the state level. That is up to the States, they will do what they did with the drinking age. You see, DC has billions and billions of Highway dollars that States want. So, they do this:
You can't have the money UNLESS you make it ILLEGAL to use X (X being that ipad connected to your screen) while driving.
So, over the course of the next few years. Maybe faster, States will pass bans. They will require sensors or locks and you will be fined or even arrested for driving with one.
That my friends is what is going to happen.
It will happen because teenage drivers are ****ing horrid at doing more than 1 thing at once, and are really ****ty at driving all together. When they **** up, they are gonna take US all with them.
