BTW, back in the 90's I had an AWD Eagle Talon Turbo (twin to the Eclipse) that was pretty highly modified for a street car. I ran mostly HKS stuff (including an EVC boost controller) and had an hybrid turbo on it (stock turbine wheel with larger impeller wheel). With upgraded injectors, I could push 20 lbs of boost and the car ran mid-12's all day long with a hard launch. I used to rev the engine to 6000 rpm and just side step the clutch. It was sick and I was shocked how many runs I could do before breaking the axles/CV joints. Overall, it was a fun car and I did surprise many people in more powerful cars with my hard launch.

400 timeslips (a bunch more launches on the street) and still retained the stock 4 bolt axles after 115k miles with 1.7 60' times.
I do miss the strip a little but my bank account is in better shape without it.
I also autocrossed,road course and ice raced it.

LOL, that's awesome. I used to run consistent 1.8 short times. I don't think I ever got down to 1.7

I admit I'm intrigued by all the off road assist gizmos of the new TE Runner but sometimes simple is nice and I really enjoy my 4Runner off road which sure has ended up being a cheaper hobby than drag racing my Eclipse.
I'd like to think my next 4runner will be a slightly used '11 TE.
Here's my Eclipse in '95 w/23,000 on the od and got it for $13,000 from the original owner. I kinda miss it bone stock. OBD1 computer,simply AWD and easy to mod which in the mid '90s it was trial and error.

I think the X6 is horrifically ugly. The sloping roofline reduces rear headroom, rear cargo room, and basically eliminates all visibility to the rear. It has basically zero offroad ability. And it is an overweight pig.
IMNSHO, a 5 series wagon will do everything an X6 does, but do it far better -- the wagon has more room, better handling, better ride, better performance with the same engine, better mileage, etc. The only thing the X6 does better is fill BMW's coffers with your money.
I just don't see the point of the X6. If you want an offroad vehicle -- get a real SUV (e.g., Land Crusher). If you want a wagon to take the kids to the mall, get an 5 series wagon, E class wagon, A6 Avant, etc. If you want a sports sedan, get an M5 or E63, etc.
You're making just about the same argument I've been trying to make about the Trailblazer SS and Grand Cherokee SRT-8. I don't see the point of them and they seem to be pretty much useless vehicles. If you want something fast and performance oriented, buy a performance car. If you want an SUV to go offroad, tow, camping, etc..then buy an SUV. If you want something that looks like an SUV (but doesn't really function like one) or something quick for an SUV (but that will be outperformed by a performance car), then I guess the SS and SRT-8 are just what you need. Not me though...

haha I second that, my '99 4Runner limited with 208,000 miles was way better than the 2008 Pathfinder! crazy rattles!!!
Really? My cousin's Xterra rides a lot rougher than my buddies Pathfinder, but I would expect that since the Xterra is much more offroad biased. My buddies Pathfinder actually rides a lot of a 4th gen 4Runner. Actually, I think the ride over bumps is actually a little bit better on the Pathfinder, probably because it has IRS.

It came down to the Pathfinder or a 4Runner for me.... and they may have the same 4x4 systems... but the ride, feel and smoothness are miles apart. I was literally shocked at how poorly the Pathfinder drove compared to the 4Runner. Was not even close.... took a couple different Pathfinders just to make sure that the first one wasn't the 'exception'.... nope. I was even slightly leaning initially toward the Pathfinder... and had researched forums comparing the two and read many claiming there was little difference in the feel of the ride...... that is BS in my opinion. And why I now realize that the majority of the people that claimed that.... we're the ones that choose the Pathfinder and I think they were simply trying to convince themselves that was the case. I found them night and day different.
That was when I told my wife... we're getting a 4Runner. :reddance:
