Nitto Ridge Grappler?

theyre on my f250, and they're amazing. doubt they'll perform as well off-road as the RG. but the f250 rarely does off road shenanigans.

I'm surprised by the idea that the RG would out preform the ST Maxx off road. The ST Maxx is far more proven than the relative new comer RG's. My experience is that the ST Maxx preform considerably better off road than Ridge Grapplers. The ST Maxx are by far the more durable tire. Both in tread and sidewall. Where the RG's will chunk the ST Maxx hasn't yet in the 10,000 miles I've run them. (About 1,000 miles off road so far through Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah) Granted I haven't seen much mud other than this spring as the snow was melting, however I'd say both preformed similarly in those conditions. On rock I'd say they preform similarly but again no chunking with the ST Maxx. And as far as snow, ice and wet conditions on road go there's no comparison, hands down the ST Maxx, the RG's were bad to awful depending on the situation. To comment on the posts about the ST Maxx needing a lot of weight to balance and pulling to the right, there's some truth to both I think. My 285/75 St Maxx's took a moderate amount of weight to balance, similar to what my 285/75 Ridge Grapplers took. However, the ST Maxx's haven't required any weight changes through 2 rotations and seem to play well on all 4 corners. My RG's required constant re balancing and didn't rotate well. My 305/70 RG's were a horror, they never would balance and required double the weight of either 285/75 to even come close. I gave up on those altogether at 4000 miles.
As far as pulling to the right goes, for the first 2500 miles the ST Maxx pulled slightly right. Then suddenly it stopped. They do tend to follow grooved roads a bit.
Overall I don't think the St Maxx and the Ridge Grappler compare very well. They are designed for very different purposes in my opinion and the ST Maxx seem to get about 50% more mileage from my experience and reading. Overall the ST Maxx is a much more aggressive tire than the RG.

Just got back from Big Bear to Pioneertown via 2N02

Nittos perform well ... Aired down to 15psi and was a smooth ride. 4.88's and 1st gear crawled up and over everything slowly.

But they did chunk up on me last part of the trail. Had some sharp rocks...

The big chunk out of the rear passenger

Not too big but damn! Ive done that trail several times now plus the Hearbreak ridge and sidewinder offshots and never had chunking issues with my AT3Ws or M/Ts when aired down to 16-18psi. Were these rocks near the Joshua Tree grove? I felt the sharpest rocks were on the Tip Tip mountain side trail.

Yes they were Joshua tree and the near Mineral Mountain.

Out of curiousity but still relevant to topic... Anyone have tire noise experience between KM3s and RGs? Any experience is appreciated and 10K+ reviews would be excellent. I may step up next round if noise is reasonable with my saily commuting. FYI, pre COVID I DO 2-3K miles a month.

My current RG setup is the 33" in C-load.

These showed up yesterday. Just need to test my patience and wait until Friday to have them mounted. 295s w/spacers are on the truck for reference.

Got them mounted today, 305/70/17. About 100 highway miles in , no complaints.

any additional rubbing on the body mount? I have a pretty aggressive bmc and 295/70/17s on my RGs with spidertrax spacers. Mine are still pretty new, but eventually i may want to go up.

The only rubbing I’ve found is when I’m at full lock in reverse, backing out of my driveway (small transition to the street). I was previously running 295 Toyo MTs with spidertrax, and those rubbed a lot more than what I’ve found so far (I haven’t taken them off-road yet so I might be getting out ahead of my skis here).

Does anyone get any slight steering wheel vibration with these tires? I have 285/70/17 C-rated. I only get it between 40-50mph. Drives just fine after those speeds. I took it back to Discount Tire and had a roadforce balance which did not help.

That's the exact tire I have and no vibration from 0 to 85mph. After the lift and new wheels & tires, the slight vibration I had at 55-60mph stock is gone.

I have same setup with no vibrations also. Been wheeling on rocks on them also. The only time i had vibrations was because of mud caking tires and wheels. After cleaning all was resolved.

Maybe try inspecting wheels and alignment?

Getting ready to have my 4runner lifted and wheels and tires with 285 70 Ridge Grapplers. Are they still a good tire and should I go with five, for a 5-tire rotation? I will probably go with 10 PLY.

Thanks

Looks great. I have the same setup, however i have a 1in spacer on the rear and have noticed some sag when i add weight. Wondering if i should add new (bigger) rear springs or if just using a 1.5 in spacer would solve my issues.

not sure if its my tires
i have the 285/85r17 load c ridge grapplers, probably less then 5000 miles on them, had them less then a year. lately driving around, everything feels not too stable. my suspension is tight, but i'm thinking the little wear i have is causing issues already

It's the tires. I had the same size in C as well and had the same experience. I had 305/70's as well and they were worse. I'd check to see how well they are balanced, that can contribute to the problem
