Nitto Terra Grappler AT vs. Firestone Destinations AT

I just moved to the northeast (Worcester, Massachusetts) from Texas and am looking for an all-terrain tire for my 4runner...that will give me that more aggressive look...give good rain traction...provide good snow traction since I've never really driven in the stuff (separate snow tires are not in option due to storage limitations)...and occasional off road duties like gravel roads and occasional unpaved roads...while providing decent pavement performance (quiet, good thread life, etc)

I've narrowed it down to the Nittos and the Firestone Destination AT which one would you recommend and why? I'm on a budget and have been able to find a set of 4 of these 2 for about $600

Also I am looking at getting 265/70/17 size tires....is there an issue with rub with the Nittos? I know they r comparable in size to the BFG A/T KO's....I have no lift....just stock

The only tire in the 265/70/17 size that's reported to rub on stock height vehicles is the BFG K/O. It rubs more because of square shape than lack of lift. It'll make light contact with the UCA (upper control arm) whether you T4R is levelled or not.

Since money is a factor , I've talked to people (locals) who I've seen with the Firestones AT , they seem to like them and actually should have went that route personally and if I buy out my lease then put something else on with another set of rims.
I would have liked to try them as I feel Firestone / Bridgestone has really stepped up to the plate with their tires.

I would have liked to try the Nitto's in the worst way , but HERE they are 195.00 a pop , there only a few places that carry them and they seem to know it . The would have costed me the same as BFG , Revos , Goodyear Wrangler SA's .

I also do not buy tires over the internet. I have had to many issues , with a tire not balancing , and warranty issues and sending stuff back and forth , never again !!!

I've never owned either one so I can't really say what's better but I feel you can't go wrong with either if it fits your budget .
 
I've read a lot about the Bridgestone Revos and would love to get them....but with my budget they're about 200 dollars more...from what I've read these two seem like good compromises....if money was no object...I would get the REVOs based on everyone's input...will one last longer the other?
 
Between the two, i would go with Nittos TG. I don't like to buy anything that is a "2nd" to another tire...in this case, the Firestone is the cheaper twin of REVOs. You wonder what Firestone "left out" to make the Destination A/T cheaper than REVOs. :confused:

I would also look for Yokohama Geolander A/T-S (very good from what i have heard).
 
Id have to vote for the Destination ATs. I have had them on my truck since March and about 15,000 miles. I like the looks, good traction on and off road and very quiet. The reviews between the Revos and Destinations were so close that the extra money just wasnt worth it to me. Dont know that much about the Nittos, but you prob cant go wrong with any of the these three brands.
 
I would give a vote for the Nitto TG. I have had Toyo Open Contry AT on my truck for the last 40,000 miles and have been happy with them. They are getting a bit loud now, but I just turn up the radio. Nitto and Toyo are "cousins" Snow and rain traction have been acceptible. My only complaint would be on hard packed snow, but most tires have issues there.

I got my Toyos at Town Fair Tire and they price match internet pricing and then add about 10 -20 for what you would pay in shipping. Just bring in a quote from an internet dealer and show the shipping and they should match that. I do not think they carry Nitto but I bet they can order them.
 
So I guess from the info above your choices are all good , find one that fits your budget and roll with them.

If I go with the Nitto Terra Grapplers...what is the recommended pressure to put for the tires...I seem to remember seeing a post with people stating 35psi as being ideal...any input would be great

I'm on my second set of Nitto TG's. I got the tires before the lift and did a number of 4x4 trips and did noticed very slight rubbing when the wheels were cranked and backing up quickly. Not enough to worry about IMO.

Great traction for an AT tire. I've had a set of BFG AT KO's before and didn't like the steep price. The Nitto's do realy well in snow and ice and you should get 50k out of them. I haven't seen any other good AT tire do that. Get'em you'll love them.
 
I'm starting to shop around for tires , IMO the Destination A/T's look a little similar in tread design to the old model Michelin LTX A/T's . I REALLY liked that old Michelin design . What a great tire that WAS .

How are your Firestone's holding up so far ?

I know right. So many open ended threads in here.

What did you choose and hows the time been with them so far?

I just put on 265/70 Dest. ATs last week. Not enough mileage on them yet to give a full review but they are fantastic so far. Amazing value to boot.

35 is the max psi on the TGs in a C load range. OP I vote the TG's Ive only had mine for 2,000 mi but like them alot better then the revos I had before em
 
Well I made a choice . Went to the tire store last Monday and kicked everything in the showroom and asked questions till they wanted to push me out the door LOL !! Decided on the Nitto Terra Graps. I really love the looks and the things I've read about them . And the deal I got , well.... couldn't turn it down .
