Nitto vs Swamper.. Need opinion

I'm going to be pulling the trigger on some new tires soon. My main concern is longevity. Which tire is going to hold up the best in the rocks/trails as well as put up with me driving 70 down the interstate.

The tires I've narrowed my search down to are the Super Swamper IROK Non Directional and the Nitto Trail Grappler in a 315/75R16

SS IROK ND: 34.7/12.50. 10 ply. 67lbs. 20/32 tread.

Nitto Trail: 34.8/12.83. 10 ply. 75-80lbs? 20/32 tread.


So based on specs, disregarding price, what would you go with?

There is no such tire that exists. You can basically have one or the other. I have run both tires and here is my opinion on each

Iroks - bias ply. Every morning has flat spots. Loud as all hell on the highway. Expensive. Have about 10k "rode hard,put up wet" miles and have about 1/4tread left. they grab on rocks like suction cups
(disclaimer: these are on my dedicated rock crawler but it does get driven to and from trails at about 65-70 highway about an hr away. 39.5x13.5x17 is the size)

Nitto trail - also expensive and also heavy but road manners were quite nice considering tread design. They balance out well. The rubber compound is much stiffer than the swampers so rock grabbiness is less pronounced but still does ok. Wear seems to be on par with any mud type tire.
(disclaimer: these are on a 2011 Tacoma mostly street driven with above average difficult trail riding. No where near as difficult as the crawler though. 35x1250x17)

Where did you find the IROK ND's?

I can't find anyone who sells em. I figure I'd just call Interco...

What made you decide against them and go for the MTZ's?

I think the only places I could find them were on ebay and amazon. However, with a quick search it seems they're getting hard to find. I'm sure any of your local offroad shops who can get super swamper brand can also the irok nd's. They're just not that popular.

I went with the MTZ's because they seemed like a better tire for my needs. Since this is my dd I travel a lot on highway and stuff. So, I didn't want to buy such an aggressive tire. There aren't a whole lot of reviews on the irok nd's and I couldn't pinpoint a good lifetime tread mileage out of them. I knew the MTZ's were an awesome tire already but the reviews on them were great and so was the mileage you get out of them.

Yeah if I decide to grab em, i'll swoop up some spidertrax. I don't do nearly as much street driving now from when I lived in Tucson, everything in Chico is within 5 miles. The only highway driving will be to meet up with Jon and the crew to hit trails, and that's only 2hrs max highway driving. If they last me 2-3 years I'll be happy. The lug pattern is a little tighter than the regular IROK's too. But, we'll see... just trying to get my tire choices lined up. I don't have too many options for what I'm looking for.

And of course, all spidertrax spacers are on backorder lol

$317 a piece through Interco, shipping is $200... gonna see I can get a quote from somewhere close, maybe they won't charge shipping.. i dunno... if not I'll prob pull the trigger on these.
 
Plain Swamper TSL Radials, my dad had 2 sets of 36's on his pickup, they lasted from 25k-170k with light trail driving as well as daily interstate trips.

The sizes they make are either too big or too small, and too much money. The 36" are $400 a piece.

Plus, you're saying your dad got 70k miles out of each set of TSL radials....? don't think so.... :shrug:

But, regardless, the only other interco tire i'd consider is an SSR, but too much money and too wide.
