NO CEL: Repeatable misfire/loss of power. With video for her pleasure!

I am sorry to hear that. You shouldn't lose any psi over an hour.

I'd be willing to bet your head may be cracked in the same spot that this one is. Check out the full tear down of the 5vz and where the crack occurred on the head, it is pretty thorough:

The only CEL I have ever had on my 4runner is on Cyl 4; I burned a hole in the Denso spark plug wire earlier this year for a misfire.

That's an EXCELLENT video. Makes me much more comfortable with a DIY fix. I'll have to watch the rest of the series.

Sorry to hear that Alex. I guess a DD is in order first. At least you've been around long enough to know what your options are. You've got a great rig. It'll be up and running again in no time.
DD is not going to happen. If I bought one, who knows how long this would sit. I am going to contact the head place today and see if they accept unused/uninstalled returns. If they do, I am ordering parts today and will start pulling this weekend. With the wife out of town next weekend, I should be able to make some good progress on getting the rest done.

Totally agree. Your rig is awesome and you have the knowledge to fix it!
Thanks man. Though I may not agree with the knowledge part, I think I can figure it out. May just be a bit slow =)
Sorry to hear that. If it never over heated you should be fine with new heads.
If you haven't heard LCE is now making boost ready 5VZ's along with their already race proven 3RZ's. Good Luck Alex!
It has never even come CLOSE to overheating. I am not too worried about the block but will be sure to check it when the time comes. I am going to replace with all Toyota parts (other than their bare head for $1000) and if I can make it another 180k miles without a car payment, I think it'll more than pay for itself.

Thanks guys. :boxing:

Hello,
2 cents from the outfield...

Have you considered swapping the ECM just to see?
Sometimes electronics have issues which create nonsensical symptoms.
...And, "NO CEL".

I would have considered it, but I cannot think of an electrical issue that would cause my cylinder to fill with coolant =)

Yes.
It is a strange association.
You mentioned that the IAC has not been inspected.
Coolant flows through the IAC, as well as intake. There is a barrier between them, of course, with a little rubber gasket.
The IAC is also very connected to the ECM.

If this sounds crazy then hopefully it's entertaining at least.
No expert here.

A point I neglected to share earlier: I do have some white smoke on cold starts (i.e. First start in the morning) and have been losing a bit of coolant.

About how much coolant were you losing ?
Also about how long would it take to lose said amount ?
Just curious for future reference

Over a month or two my coolant overflow reservoir thing would be empty, and the coolant level in the radiator would be about down to where the "gill" things inside start. Usually just above them.

When it started getting real bad the coolant would drop that much after driving on the longer trips I do. Say 500 to 1000 miles.

Crap, I'm having the same thing happen to mine
No overheating runs good but I'm slowly losing coolant just like you are.
Every couple months I need to refill the overflow reservoir with no visible leaks and passes all said test you have also done

This little guy is what made my issue quite clear. My intent was to use it and return it like a POS, but it's awesome. I'll be keeping it.

Left it on over night and it filled cylinder 4 with coolant.
