No dash light 88 runner, and rear window motor removal

Hi,
Just picked up an 88 and the dash light does not work. Have power to the dimmer switch plug and I tried to put my 87 switch on it to eliminate the switch as a problem but they look completely different. So, I need to test power at the bulb. I was wondering if there is an easy way to get the dash bulb out? I would like to jump the dimmer connector but there are three wires=---two hot and one ground. The red and white with a stripe are hot.
Also, have power to the rear window motor but no movement. Assuming it's a bad motor. Hoping I can try my 87 motor without tearing the whole tailgate apart. Is there an easy way?

Does the window go up and down with the key in the tailgate? Is you Back Door light out on your dash? Do you have the 2nd bolt from the rear on the left side installed on the top? To rule out the motor, I'd check it by jumping power straight from the battery. It is a reverse polarity motor. Power/ground one way, window goes up, power/ground the other way, window goes down. If you jump the power and the motor works, chase wires from the motor to the relay in the Driver "B" post. If they key works but the switch doesn't then it is either the switch or the relay.

If you are still not convinced, take the motor out of the 87 and just connect it to the electrical and test the circuit that way.

See below for a test of the dimmer rheostat. I would be hard press to think that all you bulbs went out. Here a link to the FSM and 88 Wiring Manual. Troubleshooting for this starts on BE-1.

As stated before, I am getting power to the rear motor, so I assume it's bad. I also did a direct batt. hookup and it appeared to be shorting out. I was asking if there was an easy way to pull said motor. I have researched this and I'm aware of the 2nd bolt from the rear.
As for the dash, I should test the dimmer rheostat before pulling the gauge.

Oh ok. Well the steps for pulling the motor are in the FSM in the link above. There is only one way to pull the motor, but one other thing would be to make sure the tracks don't have it bound up.

I've been a member of Celicasupra.com for years and sold many parts from Supras there. I still have motors for headlights, windows, wipers---front and rear-- and sunroofs.
The sunroof motor from a Supra MKII looks like the rear window motor and the plug is the same. I plugged it into the window harness. It works when I hit the switch, so next, I pull the motor from the door and verify it does not work even when free of hardware. I hope to reach inside the door and remove the 3 10mm or 8mm bolts that hold it in. I would be stoked if the sunroof motor worked out.
Lots of interchangeability with Toyotas from year to year, model to model. Used a Supra heater fan for my 4runner. I simply changed the mounting plate as one was motor centered, one was off-center.

I would not be surprised if some of those parts bolted up. I read somewhere that a driver 86-99 Camry motor is a bolt up part for the rear window but I can't verify that.

Just a note from someone who has done that do a buddies 4runner: mark both arms for alignment when you take the motor out. Those arms are sprung so when you pull the motor, you'll lose the placement of the arms and getting them aligned again is a PITA! Just draw a line across both arms with a sharpie or something so you know you put them back in same spot. Also, hold the arms when you pull the motor so they don't snap closed and hit ya... it hurts!

Pulled the tailgate motor while still in the gate and glass up I have long thin arms and fingers, which helps. Installed the Supra motor. Glass going up and down but groans a lot when moving. I wonder if the crinkled up tinting is what wore out the previous motor.

The 85 Supra sunroof motor worked fine---even had a longer cord.
