ok , so on my right side of steering wheel wiper/washer switches are back-lit but on left side the headlight, turn signal , front fog lamp switches are not. As well as my controls on drivers door..(power window/locks)..now this is silly because I cant recall if they ever were.:shrug::shrug::shrug::shrug::.......any input on this????? could it be a fuse? thanks any help appreciated!!!!

Typically it's the bulb in the switch. Search online for OEM Toyota parts and you can get replacement bulbs for them. I'd check them first and make sure they haven't rotated after the bumps in the road and have become disconnected.

As CookieRoe mentioned, the stalk themselves aren't light. The buttons on the steering wheel for audio controls; dash switches for center diff lock, curtain airbags, 110v AC outlet, rear window, etc.; DAC, seat heaters on the center console are lit. Only "Auto" on the door lights up.

I haven't seen any manufacture that lites up the control stalk. I think BMW does, but that stalk is for the transmission. Higher end cars maybe. It would be cool if they were............... that would be a cool mod! (if it can be done)

Don't think it's really necessary on the stalks, since they don't serve too many functions on Toyotas. One is turn signal and lights, the other is wiper functions and the cruise control on the steering wheel.
Some older American cars it gets a little funky cause cruise controls are operated by the left stalk, so I can see a need there. That's the good thing about most Asian made autos, everything is really intuitive, simple to operate and self explanatory. Domestics have this A/C, max A/C non-sense and you can't get airflow without running the fan, while some German cars got this snowflake deal.
One way to get light there is using directional LEDs and mount them to point towards the stalks as ambient lighting. The 5th gen has an LED like this in the overhead console to light up the center console.
