No More Running Boards

I don't get it :awais:

All this talk about "debadging" and "derunningboarding".
I think the Runner looks much better with running boards.

What's next? Taking off the hood because it hides the engine? Taking off the doors because they get in the way? Come to think of it...the roofrack probably affects mpg.......:

Looks good. I took them off my limited the first day I had it because at 6' 1" I never use them and all they do is get the back of my dress pants dirty before work.

Same here on my '05 Sport. Took 'em off and never looked back. The ones now-a-days without the chrome are imo ugly, rubbermaid looking types. The older 2nd/3rd Gen T4Rs and some of the 4Gen Limiteds were painted or had the chrome, but the recent ones look better propped in the corner of my garage than on my truck.

PLUS: Dropping that extra 50lbs gave me 10mpg more and 0-60 times in the sub 6's.

Wondering if any of you who have taken off the boards have installed splash guards up front to help prevent chips? If so, which ones did you purchase?

Definitely better.

The running boards don't add to the vehicle. Taking them off gives a much cleaner raised look, not to mention the car is not that high to begin with and the boards just dirty up the pant legs for me.

BUT.........my elderly Dad and elderly in laws need them to climb in.....and the boards do keep rocks nad crap from slinging up and dinging the lower door areas.

People are complaining about chips after running board removal,well, then you need some nice mudflaps since 3M protective coating will only help minimally.

One nice thing about the running boards is that they do drop a little lower than the gas tank, and other parts of the underside of the truck. When I would crest a small hill while offroad, I could judge ground clearance by looking out my window and seeing how close the ground was to the running boards. This came in handy a few times. Without the boards, you really have to be aware of the limits of a non lifted truck. I'm glad I have mine off though. It makes the 4runner look more aggressive, and sporty. I probably won't be getting sliders anytime soon, but I do plan on getting a lift and some larger tires by next winter.

They do give a visual reference point but they're definitely not lower than the gas tank. If you thought they were, I'll bet you have a few nice badges of honor on the ol' tank.
