No power to Trunk AC 120V 400W socekt

I have no power to the AC 120V 400W in the trunk. The accompanying 12V/120W plug socket still works however.

Has anyone else dealt with this electrical failure?

What did you plug into it before it stopped working? Is there any chance you blew the fuse?

There's probably a fuse in the block and then a fuse in the inverter as well.

Find the power input to the inverter and verify good in, bad out, and there you have your problem.

Thanks. Actually I never tried plugging into it until this weekend (I am the second owner however) it was a laptop. Thanks for the tip, I need to look into how to do that.

No. The center consule plug works, the glove plugs work and the other plug in the trunk works. I tested them all and only the trunk AC 120V 400W does not power.

I've had the same issue but only when using a laptop charger. I think a laptop charger tries to pull too much juice and there is some fail-safe that turns it off. Try using other accessories: my plug works just fine for everything else.

Just as an aside, mine won't charge a laptop if the engine is NOT running. Something to think about. When you test it make sure the engine is running.

also remember when checking your laptop charge etc... if your car is in drive its only 100 watt
in park its 400 watt

silly thing :)

I had the same issue but still no power when pushing the inverter switch. Gotta love dealerships. They replaced the dash as it had a deep scratch when it landed from Japan. They didn't bother to attach the wiring harness to the inverter switch button before bolting everything up. Talk about lack of attention to detail :smash:

Has anyone performed an over-ride on this setting? I really need to be able to charge my laptop while traveling. Pretty sure the dual Odyssey batteries can handle that.

somewhere in this thread from the 5th gen sub-forum is the answer you seek:

400W Inverter Mod?

though i was unable to make out the exact wiring diagram solution. if i was you i would tag the guys writing in that thread, ask your question there, and go from there.

As noted by HerT4R there is a thread with no specific instructions, you have to cut up factory harnesses, loose one wire and ground another.

I would get a decent aftermarket unit hooked up to 12v if I had the need. You will probably get cleaner AC power out of it than our stock unit.

Similar issue with no power to the inverter. Finally looked at the inverter switch. The doe-heads at the shop had unhooked the switch when they were doing some unrelated work. Both my wiper de-icer and inverter switches were disconnected. Popped the dash connected the switches and I’m off to the races.
Just joined the forum after leeching for a bit. Thank you all for your ideas and help over the years. I’m so far from being able to do mods, but am very interested and willing to learn. 2017 4Runner TRD pro is finally off lease, so now that I own it, I can take her off road. Lol

Sorry if this has already been answered but where is the location of the actual inverter unit? Is it very close to the 110V outlet or closer to the dash switch?

FIXED IT in a parking lot when I finally needed it

THANK-YOU!!! Calling them doe-heads is polite.. I was able to push the e-brake pedal down, lean a phone with flashlight on against the floorboard shining into that area of dash, and on my 2019, able to find and reach the wires (did some yoga and contortions to get under the dash) without any tools, find the plugs, and plug both in without any tools.

(must have been when they installed that stupid fake "Karr alarm" blinking light)

I just confirmed this.Switch didn't light up no matter what. Engine running, in Park, etc. -Fuses were fine, relay was fine. I just pulled the dash face behind the switch (easy) and found it had come apart from the harness behind it. Plugged it in and it's working like a charm. Thank you so much!
