No power until engine warms up

A good way to make sure its not the TPMS is to find another 4runner, FJ or Taco and park beside it for a good while until your indication light stops blinkin. I think its about a 20 minute delay - maybe longer - but should be enough time for your 4runner to cool down, then see what happens

FWIW I rarely carry my spare around town and mine is always blinkin at me only sometimes (alot of toyotas around where I live) and I never had this issue

Thanks for the info, I know i'm not the only T4R that has VSC OFF.....

Totally agree with you - It may very well have nothing to do with the ZP being cleared, but I am pretty sure that the issue has to be electronic - whether your car isn't reading a temp right, or waiting for a safety threshold to clear or be set somewhere, something isn't quite right about the way it's going. These vehicles are very tightly integrated with a bunch of embedded systems, and they must work in concert to get the car's expected behavior. It's very unlikely that a purely mechanical issue would cause that sort of a response. Out of curiosity, do you have an 08 or above model?

i totally agree/believe that its electronic. no mine is an 04'. Im getting off work now going to get home and do a ZP calibration, then report back. Why ask about 08+?

yes, like others mentioned, there are at least 3 "warning" lights on your display: tire pressure low, VSC, and something else that I cannot make out. Might be an idea to get rid of those warnings and then start to diagnose if the problem does not go away. with all those errors, you don;t know what its telling the 4runner's processor to do?

I asked about the 08+ because those models have the ability to disable the VSC without modification of the system with a TRAC/VSC disable switch, so I was wondering if you did have an 08, if you had deleted ZP cal information so you wouldn't have to shut it off every time you drive. I personally leave the system on - big believer in VSC during emergency situations, but I can understand your preference.

Mine does it too. I have an 03 V6 it doesn't engage the vvti on the engine and it up shifts quicker than normal to prevent excessive wear. It's totally normal and many new modern cars do it...

Maybe it only has to do with us old runners with the old 4 speed. who knows.

You know this is starting to remind me of a time when I got an Lexus RX350 (3.5L 2GR-FE V6) as a loaner. The car was really quick, but there were a few incidents where it did exactly what yours does.

This is really sketchy and in my opinion dangerous, because on at least one of those occasions I needed that power to be there because I was pulling out in traffic and it wasn't.... Almost pooped myself.

I unplug the pressure sensor from my master cylinder, which lights up VSC and TRAC off. I get more power because it lets me burn rubber! :driving: The VSC being off just means that the vehicle's stability and ABS is disabled or faulty, no power restriction.

I'm starting to agree with this theory. It has always done this and it makes sense why they would. too sudden of changes to certain metals can cause issues, so revving like a mad man when your motor is cold perhaps does more damage then being allowed to do so....

However....The one way to get around it is to simply downshift into a lower gear manually. If you go into L or 2 then it doesn't restrict you. And doing it again this morning, it seems like there's no power loss or restriction, it's just that its not allowing you to rev high or downshift to do so either.

when I have VSC/TRAC OFF, my ABS still works fine. tested it in the dirt plenty of times and you can still feel the ABS working and hear it
