NoCo Genius Onboard Charger

I work from home and may go several days or more without any significant driving so I was looking for a way to easily keep my battery charged while leaving my fridge installed 24/7. I just got the 1-channel 10A Noco Genius and, uh, this is bigger than I expected; so much for just sticking it on the firewall.

Anyone have one mounted? I haven't started poking around under the hood today but I bet the choice location is going to be where I already have my compressor mounted.

I've been thinking about installing one to keep my Odyssey happy. My engine compartment is getting full so I'm considering taking the bumper off and mounting somewhere in that cavity. Only issue is when I eventually do a metal bumper I'm guessing it will have to be relocated.

Is this one of the chargers that Odyssey actually has on their 'approved' chargers list? If so, got a link to it for sale?

Based on my preliminary research this should work in the normal AGM mode as it won't go above 14.7 but I haven't contacted Odyssey to confirm yet.

I'd prefer a Noco to some of the others I've researched so I hope it's a match.

This is the one I went with, the 1-bank 10A model. I just now checked and it's not on the approved list. I wonder if it's worth returning for the equivalent MinnKota. I did find some threads on Expedition Portal and a couple other boards of people using the NoCo though.

200 for a charger is steep, but might be worth it long term.

This looks to be the latest version. The Noco I got is only $100, the 1x10A MinnKota that is on the approved list is ~$140.

My only thought is that the 10A MinnKota looks great, but would want clips rather an eyelets for ease of hookup.

Would you recommend the 10a 1x bank charger, and just maybe velcro it to the side front face of the battery, and leave it for charging? Basically just leave it attached rather than getting one with clips?

Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Well, I can't see why it wouldn't. I found this datasheet and this random forum post that only mentions the float voltage, which unfortunately that datasheet doesn't specify. But otherwise that charger checks the right boxes and I don't see any chargers from the official list that aren't onboard hard-wired chargers. You could get an officially approved one and add clamps or another quick-connect mechanism of course.

Nice! I was thinking a rear mount might make sense, since I plan to wire up a power bus to the back anyway.

Yeah, my plan was a "permanent" mount with a tucked away pigtail for now and maybe a hardmount plug later. I can't park in my garage but I could just have an extension cord handy and just quickly plug in when I'm parked for an extended time.

Good call. The Genius G15000 looks awesome, and ticks the right boxes. I'm just not sure which one I'll go for yet.

I generally only put my setup on a tender when i work from home or leave it on work trips. But the battery tender i have, while it works, isn't doing as good a job as it should.

So yeah, either I'll do the 10A or the bigger one. I do like the bigger one because I can use it for my motorcycle or on other vehicles if needed.

I have the single battery NoCo Gen1 Mini 4a, hard mounted too. It maintained that last Platinum 31m marine battery for nine months before I noticed the cracks in the top of the battery that were killing it. I have a new Odyssey 31m pc2150 to replace the died-not-so-hard, I hope it lasts.

That NoCo 4a is rated for 120ah or less and AGM. Frankly I am surprised that Odyssey doesn't list any of NoCo's chargers.

So for me it's not about speed, just keeping it on a tender that'll keep the battery in good health, either right before a road trip/expo, or when I'm away on business.

Given that speed isn't critical do you think the G15000 is worth the cash? Or am I just overbuying and should I do that 10amp single connection? Only downside to the cheaper one is it's kind of slow to move between vehicles.

Even the 4A model would be "enough". I mean over a 24 hour period that's 96 Ah back in the battery. Although I think AGMs do better with a high current charge to get them up to a certain threshold. But as far as conditioning and top-off the mini would be great.

So after poking around under the hood I think I'm going to just get over to Slee and grab their compressor bracket. I probably will leave the compressor where I have it now and instead just use their bracket to create a rock-solid flat surface that I can use for the onboard charger and have some "room to grow" left over even.
