Noise from drivers side dash...Just me?

Hey Guys, Has anyone else noticed a noise seemingly from behind the speedo while on the freeway? Its definitely not from below the glove box. Its almost as if a module housing is loose and tapping against the firewall. I only notice it when the radio is turned down (Yeah I know, I should leave it up :guitar3:) This noise doesn't seem to correlate to engine speed or road conditions, just vehicle speed...Wind noise??

I drive on the interstate very often. Does it sound like a creaking noise? If so, that is what I am hearing too. Radio has to be off and silent in the car but I can hear it. I thought it was the suspension or something?

I'd call it more of a tapping/rattling than a creaking, but it could be the same.
 
i have the same problem its driving me crazy, and i drive it mostly on highway, its been happening for a couple of months now, has any one taken it to a dealer and try to fix? :gun5:
 
Rainy day bump!

Just got back from a 2000 mile trip. I had to avoid 55-60 MPH the whole time.
Anyone else??
 
I had this too. I changed to Rain-X blades, (they needed it anyway) and I haven't heard it since. I think the stock blades were moving around a bit in the wind at speed, and bumping that area. I know - sounds strange, but it worked for me.

Nothing on the driver side, but on the passenger side underneath the glove box I was hearing a ticking noise. There is a removable panel and behind that there is a wire loom that was making a lot of 'ticking' sounds. I adjusted the wiring a bit and that solved the problem. I think several owners have had similar issues.

I was leaning to wind/speed induced noise so this is a possibility. I'll check for wiper hop next time I'm out.

No, it's definitely closer to the speedo.

And of course, right on cue, it came back today on a 5 hour road trip. It's intermittent though, so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to replicate it for the dealer at my upcoming 20,000 service. I'm going to check out some of the suggestions on the "rattles and creaks" thread, and see what I can find.
 
I noticed the same noise too. Thought it was coming from the speaker grill, but it does sound like it's behind the speedo. Really faint for now, could get annoying.
 
Could it be the molded styrofoam pieces inside of he dash? Mine makes this noise in the top left corner of dash that sounds like styrofoam being rubber together.
 
i have a sound too, found a thread on here about it being from the wheel well/mud flap attachments. i'm going to try that

mine sounds like a 'spinning' sound to me, and is present mostly between 55-65 mph, doesn't correlate with engine speed, and is intermittent. doesn't sound like any engine ticking i've ever heard

was much worse recently on 2500 mile trip through colorado and back

Look at me... I'm digging up an old thread because I used the search function!!! Yeah!!!

Anyway... I am having a similar issue on my driver's side. After a 4 day trip to HHI, SC; my wife can hear it now from her seat. It sounds to me like the heat shield for the exhaust that is directly under the driver side of the body is loose and making a non-rhythmical noise that tend to correlate with either wind speed or body movement over terrain.

I took my dash apart last week to install a Compustar T11 Alarm/RS, and I went through and made sure everything was secure and not moving. That is why I am leaning to this noise being an "outside" issue. Well, that and the fact that wind speed affects it so much.

...anyone else find a solution to this?
 
i did find what it is--the retaining clips that hold the soft mud guard in the wheel well squeak! i finally found it in moab last december, and i put a small twist tie around the most noisy of the clips

the clips feel loose and if i shake the soft guard i get the hamster wheel squeak sound that occurs when the wind is blowing on it

That could easily be it. I will be checking it out this weekend.

I also plan on checking the "air dam" between the hood and the windshield. From the rest of my searching I have gleaned that this was also a problem spot.

Thanks for the input! I will let you guys know if I find something.
