Noise from transmission

I know this response isn’t much help, but just trying to push the thread up in case someone hasn’t seen it yet.

I personally have not had this issue or sound before. My only thought is possibly checking the fluid level to make sure there’s enough in there. Have you ever had the fluid changed?

No I haven't. I bought it used at 143k miles and now it has 171k. I'm afraid of doing a flush due to the mileage and not knowing if it has ever been done. It shifts perfectly so I don't know what it could be
 
Are you sure the sound is coming from the transmission, does it make this sound while moving or sitting still or both, running in park, neutral, and in each gear while moving or sitting still, more info needed so we can try and help?

It possible the noise is coming from somewhere else, if you can get it off the ground on jack stands and also keep the jack/s under it as an extra precaution/safety measure and then get someone to help you to work through the gears and work the brakes before changing between gears so as not to do any damage, and you can get under it safely and may be able to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from, it would be even better if you can get it on a lift, you need to get the wheels free to turn so you can get under it to try and pinpoint the noise.

Also a $10 mechanic stethoscope would be a great help finding where the noise is coming from.

I did use a stethoscope and traced the noise to the transmission pan area. It will only make the noise while in park and the noise comes and goes

I’ve seen Mercedes transmissions make a whining noise and it was the front pump but this noise is kinda weird. I’ve never heard a transmission make that kind of noise before

Don't believe the hype about changing the tranny fluid if its not been changed before. Those stories were true for the older cars. I've had my tranny fluid changed at 150k miles and I have 210k now. I have no issues and the tranny is working great.
