noise when engaging in 4WD

I have a 08 SE 4R with 31K miles, I occasionally hear some noise when I engage(switch) from normal 2WD to 4WD. I have it in DRIVE, normally travel around 10-30miles and drive straight...(believe I'm following the manual's instruction). Does anyone get this noise(few clanking sound, like some metal is hitting my tire rim) when you're engaging into 4WD? Should this be a concern?

I've heard it before, sounds normal for what is happening under the truck. I always let off the gas, shift into neutral if I can when switching 2WD/4WD. Unloading everything should let the parts slide easily into place.

Thanks scottm. Just thought it was weird since that noise comes occasionally and always done the same method of switching into 4WD. Didn't think about shifting into 4WD in nuetral, will give that a try.
