Non-factory oil filter?

Not cheaper AND better, just cheaper OR better. You could spend over $100.00 for just one element and get a really good filter, or you could spend just a few bucks and get a crappy filter. The problem is you can't get any performance numbers when dealing with inexpensive elements so it's a shot in the dark on who is best.

I have used the Purolator as well P/N L25609. The little plastic drain piece threads in instead of popping in like the OEM kit and the O rings seem a little better.
However the price is not really any cheaper, and I bought a case of the Toyota filters so I will be using them up before I buy any more Purolator ones.

Price wise the OEM Toyota filter is cheap ($$$wise). That is the filter Toyota designed to put in, and compared to other filters I have bought for other vehicles the Toyota cartridge filters are not a big spend item.
I would still like a reputable filter relocation kit tho...

Put it this way,the oil filter is about $23 cheaper than the cabin filter in the glove box ($34 from dealer). What seems to be more important for your $35k+ 4runner. A cabin filter or an oil filter?
