Non-transponder key blank for 2002 Sport

I'm looking to have an extra key cut for my 2002 Sport ... currently have one master and one valet. I've searched, but haven't quite found the information I need ... does anyone know the difference between the Toyota 90999-00185 blank and the 90999-00186 blank? I'm assuming that 90999-00188 is a valet blank? Thanks ...

In pretty sure the only difference is that the valet key cannot open the glove box. It is so you can lock your belongings and know the valet cannot gain access to them. Although, you could sneeze the glove box would probably happily pop open.

Thanks ... the issue is that both 90999-00185 and 90999-00186 are listed as "master" keys (90999-00188 is listed as a "sub", which is why I'm assuming it's the valet key). I'm trying to figure out the difference between the two "master" keys.

The 90999-00185 has the black plastic head, the 90999-00186 is just an all metal key and 90999-00188 is the valet and is all metal.

You can order them at lithiatoyotaparts.com, I will not ship them pre cut though.

Do you (or anyone else) know if you can get a plastic head key cut from an all-metal source key? I want to make a copy but want to try something besides the all-metal if possible.

Is it possible to have the dealer cut the valet key so that it only works for the ignition and the locks, but not the glovebox? I don't have any plans of ever giving my truck to a valet (worked as one for awhile, the people in this business are horrible), but I would like to have one because I'm a weirdo OEM nerd.

I'm no expert but, how would that work? The same lock pattern is on the glovebox that is on your doors and ignition, hence the same key works, right?

Sounds like you need a personal safe in your vehicle.

The original purpose of the valet key, as I understand it, is to let the valet start the car, locks the doors, and that was it. The key would not allow access to the glovebox, and in some other cars, the trunk as well.

Haha. I have nothing in the glovebox worth breaking into. Maybe the awesome Toyota leather pouch that I scored at the dealership for $5 that holds all of my books and registration. Love that thing.

The only thing of value in my truck is on my windshield and that's the dash cam. Again, I'm just curious about this just to complete my keys that I would have received had I bought it new.

Funny enough, my 2002 SR5 only came with a single non-transponder key. I had two copies made for $2 each at Home Depot. I honestly never even thought to check if it would lock and unlock the glove box .

Wow. Sounds pretty cool to me. I wonder how that works; the same key (not valet) can unlock ignition, doors, and glovebox. Valet key only the first 2, but not the 3rd.
