Non TRD Tundra coilovers on a 3rd gen?

And another question. Im sure this stuff has been covered somewhere on the forum but is really hard to find.

Will the rear shocks from a 2000-06 Tundra fit the 3rd gen runner? I have a chance to get some rear Bilsteins for $80. Not sure if thats a good price for them

I had the non-TRd Tundra coils on my 3rd gen with OME shocks up front and the OME 891's in the rear with OME shocks. I dont think the Bilstiens from a TRD tundra would be the right choice for the 4runner.

How was the ride? And what made you use the ome's. Most guys running the tundra setup go with bilsteins

I loved the ride! IIRCc when Bamachem was experimenting with the lift, he origionally went with the OME's. I believe he ended up switching to tundra shocks? Sorry, its been a while since I've researched it.

If you look over at ultimateyota.com, he may have a writeup over there.

I used the OME's in the rear because I had planned on putting a rear bumper with tire carrier but ended up scrapping it. Hope this helps!

Theres the thread I was looking for! Its hard to search forums via cell phone! haha!

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

It's not the lift that people are just attracted to for the TRD's. It's that the TRD coils are progressive rate coils, which produces a better ride than non-progressive. You can get non-TRD coils and spacers or 5100's and achieve the height desired, but the ride won't be as good as the TRD's.

Bumping this thread instead of starting a new one....

Recently picked up a 2000 SR5 sport "highlander" and I have some questions/need some advice/maybe I can share some info pertinent to this thread:

Rear suspension is currently yellow/blue Bilstein shocks with '99 highlander tall springs.

Front suspension is King coil over. PO says coil overs are King part number 25001-151 for a 96-04 Tacoma (6 lug). These are the OEM performance coil overs that King makes. King Shocks Direct bolt-on performance shock kits for Toyota trucks and SUV’s from King Shocks « King Off-Road OEM Bolt-On Shocks : kingshocks.com
website states 15.325 compressed length and 19.5 extended length.

Currently the ride height is about 21" hub to fender all around (ok maybe 21" passenger and 20 3/4" driver)

Here's where my suspension and 4Runner rookie factor comes in......
I want to get another 3" or so in lift (or whatever is recommended) so I can run 285 70 17 tires (~32.75" dia.)

I like the ride of the Kings and obviously they have a great reputation so I'd like to keep them.
I'm not sure if I can simply crank them up to get an additional 3" of lift (while installing a diff drop as well). PO said he actually lowered them about 1.5" from the setting they were shipped at for the current level.... This makes me think I wouldn't have a problem getting 3" out of them.

So that's that..... but then what to do for the rear? My research on this forum suggests that LC coils and shocks (depending on which coils you actually get) may be more around 4"-4+" of lift. I messaged a member here selling his OME Nitro HD 60027 shocks... but I hear they are very stiff and may not be the best.
I also have a lead on some used LC coils and shocks.

Can I just put in the LC coils and leave the yellow/blue Bilstein shocks currently there with the 99 tall springs or do I need new longer shocks too?

Thanks for any help and input.
If anyone has questions on the King coil overs I'll try to answer them...

Any thoughts on my post above? Or should I start another thread?

I think I'm just going to get LC coils and shocks for the rear and crank the Kings to match. Good idea or bad idea?

Thanks

You will need LC shocks with the LC coils. The shocks are only $90-100 shipped depending if you get the Toyota stock shocks or the Tokico Trekmasters. You won't be level because the LC coils will give you over 3" no matter what wraps you get. Unless you have a lot of weight in the back and have 7 wraps. I'd just try to find some LC 7 wraps or 8 wraps and crank the Kings up to 3" up front. Don't go with the OME 60027.

I have the 7.5 wraps, which I believe are technically the least you can go. I think the next step up is the 7.75 wrap. My lc coils lifted me 2.5" higher than my old Performance Products coils, which is 4.5" from stock. And my stock coils were brand new as I got them from Toyota for free with the recall.

Thanks guys.
Would you think those coil overs cranked all the way up would clear a 285 70 17? Most likely I'll just have to try to see eh?

So I got my Tundra set up yesterday. Unfortunately I think the seller may have lied to, or misled scrunner who tracked these down for me. They are suppose to the blue/yellow and yellow/yellow TRD coils. Instead theyre white/blue and white/yellow with oem tokico shocks.

But based on localmotions experience with these and the thread on ultimate yota Im still gonna give them a try. They should still ride really nice and give me another .5", or at least sit the same height as my PP and KYB set up. My main concern is the ride quality though.
