Bumping this thread instead of starting a new one....
Recently picked up a 2000 SR5 sport "highlander" and I have some questions/need some advice/maybe I can share some info pertinent to this thread:
Rear suspension is currently yellow/blue Bilstein shocks with '99 highlander tall springs.
Front suspension is King coil over. PO says coil overs are King part number 25001-151 for a 96-04 Tacoma (6 lug). These are the OEM performance coil overs that King makes.
King Shocks Direct bolt-on performance shock kits for Toyota trucks and SUV’s from King Shocks « King Off-Road OEM Bolt-On Shocks : kingshocks.com
website states 15.325 compressed length and 19.5 extended length.
Currently the ride height is about 21" hub to fender all around (ok maybe 21" passenger and 20 3/4" driver)
Here's where my suspension and 4Runner rookie factor comes in......
I want to get another 3" or so in lift (or whatever is recommended) so I can run 285 70 17 tires (~32.75" dia.)
I like the ride of the Kings and obviously they have a great reputation so I'd like to keep them.
I'm not sure if I can simply crank them up to get an additional 3" of lift (while installing a diff drop as well). PO said he actually lowered them about 1.5" from the setting they were shipped at for the current level.... This makes me think I wouldn't have a problem getting 3" out of them.
So that's that..... but then what to do for the rear? My research on this forum suggests that LC coils and shocks (depending on which coils you actually get) may be more around 4"-4+" of lift. I messaged a member here selling his OME Nitro HD 60027 shocks... but I hear they are very stiff and may not be the best.
I also have a lead on some used LC coils and shocks.
Can I just put in the LC coils and leave the yellow/blue Bilstein shocks currently there with the 99 tall springs or do I need new longer shocks too?
Thanks for any help and input.
If anyone has questions on the King coil overs I'll try to answer them...
