Drove today 2006 T4R V8! Ready to buy but ...

What's up gents! (Go past this part to last post)
Sold my 2006 Yukon XL Denali last week and have always wanted a 4Runner. I've been learning as much as possible from this forum and online but I wanted to ask the pros!
I'm currently trying to decide on a 2005 T4R SR5, V6, 2WD w/105m VS. a 2006 T4R Sport Edition V8, 4WD w/101m.

I know gas mileage on V8/4WD will be worse. BOTH should get better gas mileage than my old Denali. I hope!!! I've read where people have said the V8 is getting 14mpg and others say 18mpg. My Denali got 12mpg in town and 16.6 highway. I've drove both and drive fine. I don't do any hauling and we hardly ever get snow. Probably will never get to use the 4WD Lo.

I've read about the "belt/chain" needs replacing on the V8 @ 100,000m. Also a "cracked exhaust manifold" on the V8?
Anything else I need to know or look for?

Basically wanting to know V6 or V8? 4WD or not? Will the V8 mpg be the same as my old denali?

Do a quick search on this with the google search feature at the top of the page. Lots and lots of info on here that will answer your questions.

But to help you out, I have v8 4wd, and ''usually'' get around 14 ish (city/town) and 19 ish (highway). These are calculated, and can vary.

Found! 2006!

Alright, found an awesome deal I hope. 2006 T4R 4WD 8cyl Sport Edition. 101,000 miles. Has the JBL sound, sunroof, etc. Drives great. Offered $14,9 and accepted! Will take to my mechanic Monday. What do u guys think? Should I be looking for any issues anywhere???

It has a 3 owner clear car fax. No accidents accept for the small child drink spills in back. Needs a good interior cleaning. It has been serviced but previous owners haven't done a 90k service. So I'm guessing the belt will need changing along with water pump? What else do I need to look for? Thanks!
 
Current owner has done servicing but no 90k service? I'm guessing the belt and water pump need to be done. Sooooooo that's about $900? So my "deal" just went up...

Sounds correct. I would just tell them your mechanic said ''its overdue for a t-belt change'' and tell them your mechanic said it will be $900 to change. Re-negotiate for a minimum of half that cost. If tires or anything else like brakes or calipers come up, then renegotiate for more off.

Try to get $900 off. With that savings, its an ok price, but for the current price and timing belt that needs changed, its leaning slightly in the dealers favor price wise.

Check out the thread in the 4th gen section called ''what did you pay for your 4th gen'' (or something like that at least).

I know what you're going through. Buying can be so stressful! Must hang in there and try to get a bit more off and all should be well.

Questions. How accurate is the MPG average on dash? From 65-75mph it said 16.5-18. I read that it was off by 2 miles? So I was only getting 14.5-16? That's what my Yuhon XL Denali got. That doesn't make sense! :eek:

Mechanic said it needs the timing belt done, that's it, otherwise looks good.
