I have a lot of experience in off-roading in places where ppl don’t usually go. I’m in SoCal and building up my 4runner now with the plan to go do some testing up in bArstow area / Mojave’s area in December. Then a Baja run in feb or March. You can totally come a long. Get your self a vhf hand held radio.

Shackles and Straps are not as useful without a winch or a hi lift jack, even with trees. Specifically not useful in the desert.

- Check out MaxTrax or Tred Pro's for getting yourself out of mud/sand (can be used as shovels as well)

- Ham Radio and GPS are both highly recommended if you are in a pinch.

- Self starting jumper battery pack

- Always take extra food and water in case you get stranded

- First aid kit for sure

Anza Borrego is off roading paradise and there's all kinds of terrain and levels you can tackle.

I'm about 15 minutes from you and would be down to plan a trip out there. probably in late July/Early August. Also check out the Socal section on the forum.

IDK how old your kids are but I would not go out where with a kid younger than 3 or 4 ... Lot's of bouncing around

Definitely recommend the ARB ones - they are really solid. I have a pair on mine and I've used them several times now when I've been stuck.

The front factory tow points are more than adequate for recovery. Read some of the technical aspects from [MENTION=106176]wfo9[/MENTION] and [MENTION=118321]Jetboy[/MENTION] in the thread below. I've recovered with them multilple times and once in deep mud with no issues. It's your money but with a d-shackle and recovery strap attached you should be able to use the factory points without issue.
