Ok guys. Joe and I are not feeling the love from our fellow local's. I see all you guys & gals driving around in the 4Runners here and I refuse to believe that other than Joe and I, none of you like to go out a play.

That said, and yeah it's a call out, it's time to "4Runner owner" up, get off the couch, and USE your 4Runner for what it was made to do. Drive in inclement weather and acuminated snow! It's really ok but challenging, just go slow until you feel more confident. Then turn off VSC and learn how to turn into a slide. It's all good. Joe and I are experienced, we both have recovery gear and the best part, we're very friendly and love to have more people go out with us. We lost our other buddy as now he is back east at Boot Camp. (Miss you Simple.)

I'm not going to bother posting pics, as you've already seen them if you've looked at Joe's previous two postings.

So this is it. Your rare female of the board calling out the "boys". Let's go play!!

Sunday 1/4/09 10 or 11 am. Meet up at El Dorado Hills Starbucks.
4311 Town Center Blvd # 450, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762

Take the El Dorado Hills exit off Hwy 50. Stay right. Once you're on EDH road, look to your left. Starbucks is in that massive (to me) shopping center on your left. Look for our 4Runners. They will have CB antenna's on top of them. If you don't have a CB, that's ok as a former member of Search & Rescue, and now a member of a 4WD club, I have FSR's (Family Service Radios) that I will allow you to borrow.

We are going 30-40 miles up 50 to Mormon Emigrant Trail Road. This is about a 3 to 4 hour adventure, so pack a lunch. If there is fresh snow, bring a change of clothes in case of wet shoes. I'd bring boots and not tennis shoes.

Yes, there is snow on the ground in the Sierra's

This pic, taken on sunday Dec 20 (by Melinda aka Ruffyan), it was snowing on the day. The snow is easily 3 feet deep where it hasnt been driven on. And today Jan 2, its raining at my place right now, so I would guess its snowing around Pollock Pines right now. So thats the good news.

However, the bad news... I think we are going to call this off. Due to 3 things.

1. Melinda's Ruffian (needs something fixed in the CV area)

2. I still have the bug, so at this point (Friday 10am) I dont plan to go, unless I get better very quickly.

3. Lack of interest from other T4R owners. From my own perspective, I am not sure I understand why you would buy a 4X anything, if you dont use it occasionally? Im just a little surprised at the volume of looks the 3 posts over 3 weeks that Mel and I put up, and the lack of any interest.

Please chime in - if you bought a 4x and never use it, why'd you buy the darn thing??

Perhaps I should put together an off road class and take some folks out to 'Experience' off roading....

Friday - Todays snow fall was between 7'' and a foot

So according to the local news, the base is about 5 feet

Plenty o snow for off roading fun

its a shame to waste it, especially since a lot of these trails will be closed next year and forever more.

The combined greeny organizations are moving to close most of these trails for summer and winter use.

Use em because we are going to loose em

Seams to me that a lot of t4r owners, those on this site who live in NorCAL, just dont use 4x

You know that knob on the dash and the diff lock button on the dash, thats what their for, off road.

Mel and I had advertised sunday snow outings for 3 weeks in a row.

Didnt get one solid yes sir-ee please, I will be there with bells on reply.

Not sure what to make of this, I might go buy a jeep or a sequoia, landcruser, landrover, nissan something or whatever and see if they play

I'm willing to go where ever several 4x4 owners are willing to go. I guess I need to ask, "Hey guys....what Sunday is good for you?" I can take you wheeling in Nevada, Sierra, or El Dorado counties. We can do gentle dirt trails, we can do easy but a bit challenging, we can do old snow or with Mother Natures blessing fresh snow trails. I'm even willing to share my expensive FSR's so those with out CB's can still chat back and forth with the people who do have CB's.
I go out often by myself. And I know that is not safe. Hence why I joined a 4WD club. I am not sure when the next run will be with them as the meeting isn't till next Sat.
Anyway, I'm just trying to make sure those who have a 4x4 get a chance to get out and enjoy them. Heck you paid for it, might as well use it. I'm NOT going to take you any place dangerous, however you're doing the driving and I can't protect you from your self. I can take you to the trail, teach you what I've learned, and make sure you get to see beautiful CA scenery!
I think Joe has plans next weekend. I work Saturdays and am off Sunday/Monday. Let me know.

Cool idea. You have to keep in mind that you asked around the holidays when many people are traveling or have long had things planned out for this time of the year.

Not everyone can just get up and go somewhere for the weekend on such short notice.

Did a drive by there today - and it definately looked interesting! Anytime there's a sign saying "use extreme caution" perks my interest. Didn't go too far (novice + solo + unfamiliar terrain == danger) but it's definately a trip I'd love to poke along on.

The next two weekends look good to me (but the weather looks like it's going to simply be "sunny") and I should be able to make either one.

On the negative side, drove up to Tahoe from Sacramento via US50 on Friday and a normal 1.5 hour trip easily took 2.5 hours due to all the traffic! I need to find a better shortcut or two!

without traffic and road / snow / hazzard issues, I can get to south shore from my house in an hour and fifteen. I used to work up there and ran back and forth several times a week, but and hour fifteen is rarely the case.

longest trip Ive had was about 8 hours in very heavy snow, chains on 4 wheels in my old chevy tahoe.

short of an aircraft, there is no shortcut from here to there. you just have to deal with the traffic

Arg. Well I'm guilty as charged. My parents live in the El Dorado Hills area and I was there the past two weeks but definitely didn't even think of checking this during that time. If I had I definitely would have gone up there with you guys. But yesterday (the 4th) I drove back down to the Bay Area for school so it would be kinda hard to do now. But if you guys do something like this again in the near future let me know. It sounds like a ton of fun.

I'm up for a run in the Sierra.

Just came back from Bear Valley - had taken the family skiing.

Have also done some trails in Sonora during the summer.

Would love to explore the backcountry with some likeminded 4Runner owners. Let me know when you plan to do a run.

I bet Mormon Emigrant Trail is as dry as the roadways around here. I pray for snow. But with temps in the 60's tmrw, I think we'd all better start doing the snow dance.

I got my new shift schedule and this upcoming Sunday is my last Sunday off for the next 8 months. Unless I burn vacation hours. So, I'm going wheeling. I was going to be meeting up with a bunch of other wheelers out toward Greenhorn to do some education efforts, some clean up, and then to drive around the Yuba River and on the trails around there. But it looks like we're letting the complainers win regarding the trail closures.

Ruffian, apologies for the non-response, I'm in mountain view and would love to roll up for a day of wheelin' with you. Sundays are great although it sounds like you will be scheduled now? I have tons of vacation time, and willing to use it for a Monday trip too...

I am getting a Toytec 3" lift on Tuesday and replacing my stock dunlops (51K) on Wednesday - gotten stuck a couple times at Hollister with the low ground clearance on my '04 but otherwise she is a rock.
