Nor Cal Wheeling, Camping and BS - 2018

Soooooo Since we failed the last time around, I vote we go back to High Lakes on last weekend of April? Any takers? I would like to go up Saturday, wheel around for the good part of the day, camp out for the night, wheel around during Sunday and head home NLT noon?

I'm 90% sure I'm down for this. But if I go, I'll have to head back to sac Saturday night.

Sly Park road in pollock pines. There are just some small pull offs with big openings.. Only thing is that it's on MET, so I just realized I we might not have access yet since they might be closed...

I was up there the weekend of the March 25th and when we were parked and playin with the snow we could hear shots off in the distance. Honestly no one up there really pays attention to the closures. Forestry service law enforcement was actually out riding in a rzr checkin on people makin sure everyone is being safe. We were pulled off the road on a trail pretty far, and they didn’t say anything to us.

Are you guys going to the high lakes in Paradise Ca? Or are you guys calling the high lakes like up highway 80?

Oooo... Off topic, but I've been thinking about picking up a Remington 500 or 870.

There are some nice trap ranges on 80, from what i've heard... The only trap range i've been too so far is Coyote Valley in the Bay.

From what i've read so far on calguns, it seems like there's a gate that closes off MET,(But i'm getting mixed answers of it only being closed on the 88 side), so most people walk in... Not really down for that... lol

I have a mossberg 500 with a 20" barrel I want a longer one like a 28" more Accurate ,, Remington and mossberg 500 are the same price same quality I think I have a couple up buds that have them and they never seen any problems yet,, I have never been at an outdoor range I have only been out in the mountains,, only been to indoor ranges to shoot the glock but I like outdoors better lol would be awesome to go out it's been a while

Glad there were no crackies or guys with shotguns... My subaru buds did say it happened once... But once is enough to want to carry a Ccw when out there... Lol .

LOL... yeah... sorry... was a very spur of the moment quick trip between some errands. Basically just rolled down the dirt road part of it, bypassing all the "trail" like bits... had my 5 yo daughters with me, so it wasnt much - just splashing through the puddles/water crossings ...

Yea... I'm aching to get out.. I've been thinking about heading to Hollister though, since I'll be in that area visiting my family. But.. That'd be a long drive for ya and kinda a big f you if I just said see ya in the bay and let you drive back up here. Haha

There is frank Raines ohv and Knoxville...

Been to Hollister once ... Was fun, but a very long drive from Folsom... I think when I go back, it'd be for a weekend/camping thing... not sure I could pull it off as a one-dayer.

Havent been to Raines or Knoxville yet ... Knoxville might be slightly more do-able ..... its still on my list to check out...

I don’t know if it means anything to you guys but a buddy of mine told me about a meet at Moon Rocks Memorial Day weekend. I’ve never been and didn’t get much information.

Lol it’s at the end of the road at highway 88. There is a gate I believe that is closer to sly park but I have never seen it closed before.

Lol I think we can debate this all night but I personally think Remington may have an edge of mossberg. And I own a mossberg!

Yea, thats understandable.. Even from my parents place in the bay, Hollisters just under 2 hours, and that drive, for some reason, feels worse/longer than going from my parents place up to my place in sac.

FWIW, Raines isn't all that bad. The exit is about 1hr 30min away, and the mountain road, that would be fun to haul through, isn't all that long, but takes an extra 30minutes. But there wasn't really much to do other than some water fording...

A friend just suggested Bald mountain to do as well.... Bald Mountain or High lakes.... I've never wheeled through either of them but willing to do both.

I've only heard good things about both the 500 and 870. I've shot both, and both feel comfortable to shoot. Both feel good to shoot. I doubt I'll go wrong with either one... I agree... Out door ranges just feel way better to shoot at for some reason...

I always suggest high lakes. It's one of my favorite places to go during the winter/spring. In fact I'm going up for the day tomorrow with my fiance, since I work weekends.
