Is there a Greenhorn Creek out that way that you can wheel along? I think I've come across that area before... but was never sure of the ability / legality of roaming around the dirt roads out that way...

Technically, access to the Greenhorn Creek has been closed by the company that quarries the river. Used to be able to take Red Dog Rd. through the river. Other dirt roads seem to have been barricaded by dirt berms, which I have driven over and continued my adventure. Now there are some areas out there that are highly sketch, inset banjo music and Bert Reynolds and shout out "You shir do have a purty mounth"

I'm somewhat local to the area. I went out there not to long ago. You can still get to the river bottom on the you bet and red dog side. But there isn't much left to wheel. They have dug and barricaded the trail to the back side and the water fall. The buck eye entry has rock piles that are suppose to stop you from going in.

He's right. There are a lot of off-the-grid types prospecting for gold, who still believe in 19th century concepts of justice. Plus years of off-roading by vandals in areas they shouldn't be have pissed off the more respectable locals. Respect those No Trespassing signs. Access to Greenhorn comes and goes. Seems like a constant battle between the quarry operator and the local teens, lol. Someone has to get rescued from the river almost every year. Here's a sign from Red Dog:

Yeah, lots of adulting happening ... it sux.
I'd love a wheeling trip but Im conflicted cause snow is looking Ah-MAZING and Im itching to go boarding too... decisions, decisions, decisions ...
On the wheeling front... I am trying to see if Cal4Wheel will let me join one of their runs on Sat. 1/26 at their Winter Fun Fest without signing up for the whole deal ... but I havent heard back from them yet. Will let you know tho.
Otherwise... yeah, it'd be good to figure out another wheeling option... Unfortunately I think all the NFS stuff is closed for the season ... so options are limited till spring... Got any thoughts?
I didnt realize those TNF roads werent closed for the season like all the others...
But I guess it doesnt matter as I already have plans.

I've never seen eagle lakes close. I've been snow wheeling there for year's.

Yea the powder does look amazing, i've been itching to get out too... but the crowd... not worth it imo.
Were you able to join Cal4Wheel?
Yea, most of its closed for the season... Could do some basic trails... Prairie City. Latrobe. MET is open???. Eagle Lakes would be fun, but i'm sure we'd be screwed with how much snow there is. Some snow wheeling would be fun.
Also side note...

Crazy, don't go alone.
I'm in 35s open diff, I didn't have heavy issues goin through eagle lakes. Some folks on 33s made it all they into the second river crossing. It's for sure doable.
