NPA: Dirt King Boxed Control Arms for the 2010+ 4Runner - Best UCAs for the money!

Alignment and nose dive

... the heim ends being mounted vertically (relatively) will fare far better. the key would be to be replacing them with high end ones when it comes due, like FK rod ends. their races are of much much higher quality and last a lot longer. 3-in-1 lube that they sell at lowes and home depot is the best lubricant you can give the joints.

that said, a nod towards icon and camburg, they both offer caps for the uniballs they use (Camburg uses a larger 1.25" uniball, the largest in the industry) that keeps the debris from entering and sitting on the top of the joint, but the bottom is still very well accessible to salt and shit

as far as anti-dive is concerned, i discussed this earlier this year with [redacted] RESQLAB. ...

Yes, 3-in-1 oil. That along with WD-40 and duct tape can fix anything. I keep all 3 in good supply.

What or who are/is FK rod ends? And the frame end of the UCA is always mounted horizontally so the arm can pivot vertically with the suspension, so I don't get your meaning with that.

Thanks for the link marshal. As you may have seen (and I forgot), I read through that when you posted it. Thanks again for the detailed explanation of geometry versus nose dive. I'll still have to ponder it a while before I get how it applies to the 4Runner. Now that my new T4R TE is in my garage I think I can better visualize your illustrations.

Yes, those Camburg uniball joint caps are the ticket to dirt-free joints. Maybe Dirt King and a few others could be convinced to make and supply those. Maybe this makes a good argument for power spraying the suspension and underbody after an off-road trip? I've use the coin-op car wash bays to wash my Jeep many times.

Edit: Okay, I found the FK rod ends. I get it now. Thanks.

I power wash my vehicle after every road trip. I am running the Dk heim's and so far I have not had any squeaks or rattle. Simple maintenance such as lubrication every now and then as well as making sure your UCA's are nice and clean is all that is really needed.

These are very robust UCA's and have been (so far) money well spent

DesertCanyons so the frame end heim joints are mounted vertically if you're looking at the joint. when i say horizontal, i mean on its side, like the uniball would be.

because the joint is mounted vertically, not on its side - debris wouldn't have an opportunity to sit in the race edges and develop issues.

mud and sand and grit is too big to be caught in the races, your worst enemy will be water and salt from winter. heavy grease will cause debris to stick to the joint can cause premature failure. whereas light oil like 3-in-1 will easily run off. most of the races are made from Telfon, so light oil is really the only way to maintain them - that said, they're also self maintaining

now that I'm thinking about it, since Dirt King is using misalignment spacers on the Heim joints; there might be enough room in the space to fit a johnny joint. i don't have my 4Runner handy as its been in the shop since the beginning of June so i can't see how much space is there.

all that said though, a johnny joint would be the most ideal joint to have on the frame side.

as the OP said, the large unibazl's last a long time for the most part, and are inexpensive to replace. if you can cap the uniball to keep shit from falling in the top and resting on the race while the ball moves around, and keep 3-in-1 oil on it, i see it lasting a really long time.

Gonna bump this up for my homie Chas. I ran DK boxed performance LCA's (bought through TAP cause they rock) on my titan for a year, they were AMAZING. Absolute works of art. I also ran DK tie rod ends, so nice and the attention to detail is unmatched in the titan world.

I can't wait to get some DK uppers with some KINGS at some point.

That's good to hear. I'm 90% decided on dirt king for my UCA's when I go fox DSC.

Go find "inferno_taco" on IG, maybe thats his name on the taco forums too? But he's running the DK arms along with ICON 2.5 resis all around, he LOVES his uppers. He's waiting on DK to do a LCA with tabs to mount secondary shock.

EDIT, i also was running FOX 2.5's on my titan with the DK lowers. It was SMEXY. TAP hooked up my truck so nicely

i haven't even considered LCA's for my 4runner. it rides so nice stock TBH, plus its the wife's daily. She will be happy with a lame spacer leveling kit:shrug:

The girlfriend refuses to drive my TEP. She says it is too big and she is worried she will damage it. She prefers her outback but makes me drive that too when we are going places. Maybe I should put a lift on that. ;)

I don't know why you guys say this about Dirt King? They make a LCA that's compatible with the 2010+ T4R. They sell just the LCA and a long travel kit that includes the LCA and the UCA plus some other goodies. The description on the Dirt King site doesn't say anything one way or the other about KDSS.

It's also not clear whether the LCA adds track width or not. The listing for just the LCA says there's no change and the description in the long travel kit says adds 3.5" of width. Does anyone know what that means?

It's a nice looking addition to any long travel set up.

I think it would be easy to weld on tabs for a secondary shock, possibly using the ICON mount at the top.

The only reason I know that dirt king doesn't support KDSS in regard to lca's is that I asked them. I don't think a long travel setup is compatible with a KDSS 4Runner but I could be mistaken.

because they don't make an OEM width boxed LCA with tabs for secondary shock lol. Definitely could use the ICON or anyone elses mount up top.
