O2 Lesson Learned

I wanted to replace both my O2 sensors. I have a 2000 T4R LTD (4WD) with the 3.4L.

Amazon has good prices on parts. Their “look up tool” said I needed a Denso 234-9002 on the front and a 234-4162 on the rear. I have the non-California emissions.

Both parts came in. The rear (234-4162) went right on – no issues. The front (234-9002) had the wrong connector. The good news is the right sensor (see below) is much less expensive than the wrong sensor Amazon “matched”.

LESSON: Go to a Toyota parts web site that shows the part number (like Toyota of Dalls) and cross-reference it with Denso’s site. Turns out, the O2 sensors for mine (front and back) are identical. They are both the Denso 234-4162.

Just did mine last night. Got mine from Amazon as well but I used Denso's site to look them up.

I must have 30 posts on here warning about Amazon's application tool for O2 sensors. Just not to be trusted.

I learned my lesson. Back when I did my complete AC rebuild, Amazon was dead-on on all the parts and numbers. As they are the least expensive I have found for Denso (in 95% of the cases) I buy a lot of Denso parts from them. However, I will be sure to double-check from now on. Hate I had to spend the money to return the wrong part. Just ordered another 234-4162 from Amazon and it will be here tomorrow.....

Or just order them from the Toyota.

If I was rolling in lottery winnings, I might order from Toyota but they want like $176.34 +shipping costs (Toyota of Dallas) for a part that costs $51.74 (including shipping) on Amazon and it is the same darn thing....can't see throwing that extra $124.60 away for a red box with a Toyota logo....

Double check all part numbers on other sites. When sure of fitment go to Amazon for the lowest price possible to purchase said part. The fitment guide on Amazon is horrendous.

To BD: see if these new O2 sensors help your fuel problem before spending money on new injectors and FPR.

If I was rolling in lottery winnings, I might order from Toyota but they want like $176.34 +shipping costs (Toyota of Dallas) for a part that costs $51.74 (including shipping) on Amazon and it is the same darn thing....can't see throwing that extra $124.60 away for a red box with a Toyota logo....

You know it's no good because it does not discriminate between 2wd/4wd, auto/5-speed, and Cali./Federal. All these change the application. Usually it just asks engine. That doesn't stop me buying my parts there; I just get my p/n's elsewhere.
