O2 Sensor / Cat Converter ??

Quick ? for you guys....I was wondering if you guys knew how much i should expect to pay for new 02 Sensors for my 99 SR5 4runner, also...how much should i expect to pay for the converter as well. Our check engine light came on this past weekend and our local mechanic stated that the code came back for either an 02 sensor issue, or Cat issue. Either way i'm sure i'm out a lot of $. Thanks in advance.

Depends if your 4runner uses the older style 02 sensor or newer A/F sensor. They switched in 1999 from the 02 to the a/f. I have a 99 with the 02 and they run about $80 from www.urdusa.com

If you have the Newer A/F sensor, it will be about double that.

If you're in the market... I bought an O2 sensor Part No. 234-4162 a little while back without checking if I had Cali emissions or not, turns out I have Cali emissions so the O2 sensor does me no good. I opened it and checked to see if the wiring harness matched up and it didn't so back in the box it went and it's been sitting on a shelf ever since.

If I remember correctly I paid about $95 for it from URD...

I'll gladly let it go for $60 shipped. Just PM me if you're interested.

a OEM cat can be around $200 to $500. those cats arent cheap.

My 2k was throwing a 420 code and the check engine light. i went to an auto parts store bought a black and red can (i forget the brand) of electrical cleaner, then i pulled the front o2sensor (MAF) and sprayed it clean. I cleared the code with a code reader.

The 420 code said my car was running "too lean". I believe the code reader said it was a cat failure or so.

I am in the same exact boat - CEL - 420 code! The truck seems to be driving the same. There isn't a rough idle and acc. is good. So I am betting it is the O2 Sen. I found out the hard way that I had a cali 99 SR5 as well. Be careful if you go to autozone .. etc .. to get codes read. They have told me three different codes for the same CEL - even though they clear it everytime. Sometimes it has been the front O2 and others it's been the rear. So just make sure you change the right one.
P.S. - The tag in the door well also said that my rig was a federal emission but it is actually a cali!

I had to get a cat. converter for my old Toyota Previa. The after market one was $190 installed and the Toyota one was $550. And it is working, i.e. I passed emissions test.

Ha! Must be a PA thing....exact same thing happened to me. Perhaps Pennsylvania has the same emissions standards as California, since my vehicle came off a lot in York, PA. URD exchanged the sensor for me.
