O2 Sensor Ripped Out!!!

Some thief stole my catalytic converter and in the process ripped my O2 sensor in the back (so there is no plastic clip anymore). I bought a new O2 sensor that has a clip at the end (I know I should have just bought a generic one with no clip).

My question is how do I hook the two together? Which wire goes with what wire? The truck is a 1997 Limited.

Damn, this is like the 3rd or 4th posting I've seen on here about stolen CATs. I had no idea they were such a hot item to take. What gives? Do they have gold inside them or something?

hulk, if I can ever figure out how to get my O2 sensor bolts off and take mine out, I'll see if I can spot the wire to wire specs for you.
 
Maybe you could buy the vehicle side clip from a wrecker and wire it back in? Then the wire colors would match.

I'd do that, you want the connector.

And IIRC, the 2 black wires are the heater element, the blue and white are the O2 sensor. I don't recall the color of the wires vehicle side as they are in a sheath. You might check out the FSM. It has a wiring diagram with wire colors to the O2 sensor. See if they match up to what you have.
 
i hope some idiot doesnt try that number on me, when i put a new muffler on a few weeks ago my factory one weighed about 40lbs from all the dang rust it had in it.... im sure my cats are in similar condition. sorry to hear yours got jacked by a lazy thief that feels he is above working a real job like everyone else...

hulk, I was able to get my old sensor out and put the new one in. However, I couldn't see enough of the wires to tell what pins out to what. And I hated to yank on them too hard. Hope you figure this out.
 
Don't the colors match between the new sensor and the car? The pair that are the same color are the heater resistance wires and they can be matched up either way as there is no polarity issue.

If they don't match, post up the colors from either side and we can probably sort it out.
 
Did anyone ever figure this out , Mine got ripped out during some serious offroading. i have 4 wires hanging loose- red,red/white,brown, white/blue.I dont know how to hook it back to the o2 sesnor,.

It's because they are really F'ing expensive, especially in California. I just checked Camelback Toyota Parts and a catalytic converter for non-California 3rd Gens is $1550. A California spec 3rd Gen came with 2 catalytic converters for a total price of $2350 to replace. So, if you can't pass smog due to your catalytic converter, don't go buy one, just take a cordless sawzall, crawl underneath somebody else's 3rd Gen and steal theirs. I really hate thieves and can only hope Karma will visit these MF'ers in a harsh way.

They're not putting them back on cars, they're selling them for scrap.

Thanks for that info. It totally makes sense since they can get a decent amount from the scrap yard for each one and they're targeting SUV's because it's easy to get underneath them. Since the scrap yards must know about the problem with people stealing them, I wonder if they require to see a driver's license and write down the person's info so they have a record and can figure out the same person is coming back over and over again. What a shame that somebody is left dealing with the expense and time to replace a catalytic converter so some shitbag can make some easy money to buy drugs or whatever.
 
Go to a dealership, talk to the parts guy. You can buy the connector they ripped out and splice that into the wires you've got hanging loose. Then a standard O2 sensor will plug right in like it's supposed to.

They have a diagram for what wire goes where. I had to do this when one of those wires got frayed and pulled out of the connector.

Good luck with that. My dealer has no clue how to order a connector, but he will if you tell him the number. Then you also have to order four repair wires to go with it, because Toyota only sells the empty housing. Gonna cost over $20.

Tell me which connector (front or back), year, and Cali or Federal if '99 or '02, and I'll give you wire colors and part numbers, whichever you prefer.

Come to think of it I believe you gave me that info last year when I was doing this.

Dealer I went to just pulls up a diagram on their computer for whatever you're looking for, has all the various part numbers listed right on it. Showed how the connector was wired and he printed it out for me so I could see how to hook it all up. I think they did have to order it in but it only took a few days.

I assumed they could all do that, but some are just lazy/stupid I guess.

Connector p/n's are NOT on the standard exploded parts diagrams. And that's what counter parts guys know how to use. You need a tech to go into TIS and get the EWD with the connector p/n's.

Reviving this in the hope of of some help, front A/F sensor (Cali emissions) got ripped out. Got a junkyard tail but wire colors don't match up...

Any place you think I can find this diagram?
