I have an 08 sr5 with a bad o2 sensor. was wondering if anyone had some advice on replacing it ,as far as tools needed and best approach to access it? it is bank one sensor 1, so upstream driver side.

thanks.

I have an 04 with a V6. Just did both drivers side a few weeks ago. I bought both the O2 sensor sockets at Harbor Freight. Downstream was a easy, upstream was a challenge. Soaked them both with PB Blaster the night before. Ended up laying on top of the engine to replace the upstream sensor. Kind of a pain, but persistence paid off. You'll know what I mean when you get in there.

Thanks Jeff , the upstream definitely seems to be a challenge, as it is a tight spot . thanks for the input on the socket from harbor freight.

can anyone tell me why the traction control and stability control are off? the codes are reading o2 sensor. It is snowing alot here today and driving around is tough without traction control. just wondering if this is common for an o2 sensor or is there another problem.

When ever you have a Chaeck engine light you also will get the VSC off and VSC trac lights.
After you change your sensor and clear you code do a zero point calibration and they will be gone also.

Would you mind snapping a few pics of locations and tools when you do this? I'm right behind you on needing to do this myself. Thanks.

Where exactly are the downstream sensors located? Under the front passenger area? I need to replace them. Do you recall what the part # was? do both downstream sides use the same sensors?

Awesome - Thanks. The code i'm getting is P0430, and it references the left side. Does that mean driver's or passenger side? (Left side when I'm in the car, or left side when I'm looking at the engine from the front of the car)

The info I got from the dealership is once it fails three test in a row, the CEL and other lights come on. I would think the opposite would be true: past three test in a row, light turns off.

So, how often does it run test: only at start up, or at what interval?

I wish I took pictures of when I did mine.
They really are not to bad, the hardest part is diconnecting the connectors on the upper sensors right behind the engine, could they have put it in a harder spot.

Finally got a chance to replace the sensor today and no luck. after replacing sensor 1 bank 1 the engine light, traction light and vsc light came back on. the codes are reading o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 again. Does anyone have any ideas? so frustrating! please let me know if anyone has a solution or something i am missing. thanks

I had an issue with bank 2. the code said that it was sensor 1, so I changed it, cleared the CEL and it came back. So, changed sensor 2 just for the heck of it, cleared the code and it hasn't come back yet. Knock on wood.

Miller, I just re-looked at your original post. I thought the driver's side was bank 2 and the passenger side was bank 1.

Maybe you changed the wrong side? I'm no expert, so I could be wrong about what side is bank 1 vs bank 2.
