OBD code PO440

I have a 2001 4Runner 4x4 with 200k miles
Just so happens we got (Central Texas) a drastic temp change from 80 deg to 28 degrees. Don't know if these may have had an effect on the Cat.
I just got a PO440 code. besides a bad Cat, where should I look for solution. Banks 1 & 2 sensors??

P0440 is an evap system fault.

likely a fuel cap in all honesty... otherwise a purge valve may have stuck open during the low temp change or something.

I have this code with a 446 sometimes. It's the check valve on the gas tank for me. The 440 is a generic evap problem (I think) and may or may not throw additional codes. My 446 is a small leak IIRC. I replaced the gas cap $30, charcoal canister $450 and the VSV $60 and still didn't fix it. Took it to the dealer for a diagnostic $68 for them to find the check valve at fault. Since it's a pretty big job to drop the tank and $500 in labor for the dealership to do it, I've been putting it off. I have to clear codes every few days, but only in the winter... Summers don't throw the codes for me....

It can get expensive chasing this code with parts, and not that bad for the dealership to check it out for you. I'd try the gas cap and then go to a dealership if that doesn't work.
