So coincidentally, I got a P0171 Check Engine code after washing my truck the other day which is usually caused by a Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) error, or Oxygen Sensor problem. Since there is almost no possible way for the MAF to get affected by a simple wash, I am wondering if perhaps this affected my oxygen sensors.
My MAF had already been cleaned a few weeks ago, but I went in again and re-cleaned the sensor. I noticed that with this MAF design, a simple spray may not necessarily clean out the gunk. I looked closely and it appeared that one of the platinum wires was still covered in brown gunk, so I carefully scrubbed both wires manually to clean it. Then I reinstalled the MAF and cleared the P0171 code via my bluetooth OBDII dongle + the Android Torque app. So far, after 100 km of driving the CEL has not popped back up again.
Out of curiosity, I went into Torque to see my oxygen sensor readings (at idle and when cruising):
O2 Volts Bank 1 Sensor 1: ~0.5-0.9V
O2 Volts Bank 1 Sensor 2: 0V
Torque will usually indicate when a particular sensor is not available to be read. My concern is that O2 Volts Bank 1 Sensor 2 shows 0V, which may mean that it has failed. Is this normal, or a cause of concern? If so, does this refer to my upstream sensor, or downstream?
If anyone else with a 5VZFE 3.4L also has the Torque app could maybe try to pull their O2 sensor readings as a comparison that would be great.
