So once again a question. Since I first got the 4Runner I have had idle issues. It used to lug pretty bad below 2000 rpm's which cleared up with the Tune Up. It also would idle down really fast to 500 rpms and then jump to 1300 and then right back down to 500. I had my mechanic take it for a few days and it didn't do it at all for him until he was pulling back into my driveway. It was pretty regular at first but the truck had sat for a long time. Now every once in awhile it will get the crazy idle but it only lasts a few cycles and then it clears up. I noticed when it idles poorly it also seems to have acceleration hesitation at the same time. Sounds like a fuel issue to me but weird that it is getting better. I thought maybe TPS but why would it get sluggish or maybe a vacuum leak but the mechanic didn't see any. I did run some injector cleaner through it which I am sure it doesn't help much. My old mechanic in NY would probably be able to hook the fuel system up to a much stronger cleaning system and recirculate it well but my current guy can't I am sure. It also had a new fuel pump put in it right before I got it. I am assuming they did the fuel filter but probably wouldn't hurt to check it anyway. Any other ideas?
Another fun issue is every now and then it will not click when I hit the key. Just nothing. If I cycle the key quick nothing but if I turn it all the way back to off and then hit the key again it will usually fire. Some times I have to do this a few times to get it to start. I am thinking loose wire on the starter or maybe the starter is crapping out. Should I just change the starter before it strands me or is it maybe an ignition issue? The way I am going this thing is going to be a new truck soon
