Occasional starting problems?!

Sometimes when i go to start my 04 V8 when its cold, it wont start. The accessory turns on but when you turn the key to start it absolutely nothing happens. In order for me to start it i must put my foot on the brake and run through the gears, put it back in park and it starts fine. Any ideas on what causes this? Anyone else have this problem?

I am far from a qualified mechanic (obviously), but it could be that the little mechanism doohicky(technical term) that prevents you from starting in gear is malfunctioning. Or it could be the other doohicky that requires you to have your foot on the brake before starting. I had this second brake thing become loose on a grand cherokee several years ago.

The doohicky is called a Park/Neutral switch.
Next time it won't start (I assume in Park) shift it to N and see if it starts. Let us know. It is adjustable/repairable.
