Hi sorry, new here, but not to forums or cars (4runners, yes)

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/new-members/145300-new-member-ontario.html

My 4x4 will not engage.

The truck is new to me and I'm still learning things about it. Currently truck is at my parents house. A month ago my dad calls me up saying TRAC, VSC CEL came on while he was driving. Pulled two codes (sorry don't remember the P####) but they were for sure (1)wheel sensor (2) ABS control. Cleared codes. I had brakes done recently and attributed wheel sensor issue to be increased dust from new brakes.

I noticed however when I go to engage my 4x4, it makes a mechanical noise, but when it finishes, and the 4x4 light on the dash illuminates, I cannot accelerate. The RPMs sweep as if the truck was in Neutral. When I go to 'disengage' the 4x4 it makes this horrible grinding noise like something is going to brake. People in the area turn and look going WTF, and I have to turn the truck off and then its ok, or I wait X-amount of time and then It jolts off violently (the 4x4).

Here's where it gets interesting....

Afterwards, I noticed the previous owner installed The Andymod, and the switch seems to have been accidently switched ON. My dad did say that morning the truck did start rough, but ran fine afterwards. filled with 94 gas and cap was tight, no starting issues since, but maybe related.

My concern is would clearing the DCTs from the computer and the lights from the dash, with the Andymod left ON; would that screw anything up and be a reason for my 4x4 issue?

I have an appointment with Toyota on Wednesday to get her looked at but I don't want to go in there blindly and get raped for $$$, and It may be a simple or at least common issue like a wire loose or sensor fowled maybe?

Any help would be appreciated Thanks so much.

Here is a picture of what I am led to believe is the Andymod...

Pardon my ignorance but what is an "andymod"?

BTW, nice looking rig for a 2001. A Stang she is not...actually other end of the spectrum but still just as much fun on different terrain. Actually more fun cause you don't have to worry about speeding tickets and not too many R.I.D.E. checks out on the trail.

Sorry I can't help you with your question but grinding noises can't be good.
