Alright, another one of those ambiguous "my 4Runner makes a weird noise" sort of questions. However, I'm not necessarily looking for you guys to telepathically hear the sound played over in my mind and then expect you to know exactly what it is, I'm just looking for some ideas on where to start.
The sound is originating from the undercarriage, it seems louder on the passenger side than the driver's side. It is a squeaking sound, kind of like if nails on a chalkboard (literally, not figuratively) except more of a back and forth sort of noise. It's not loud and does not vary with RPM. It only squeaks when going faster than 25 MPH but less than 60. It tends to squeak more when heading downhill or when decelerating than the opposite.
I crawled under there this weekend and tightened up all my shocks (one was loose), coils, double-checked my exhaust hangers and everything looks good. Even fixed my banged up skid plate so it can't contact the frame anymore. Also tightened the spare. Took care of some other clunks I had
but not the squeak.
What are the main culprits here? I know someone had said transmission mounts will squeak but I'm not sure what I'm looking for there. Any ideas on most common culprits would be much appreciated.
P.S. before you ask, the noise does not pickup on a recording. It can only be heard outside when all the windows are down and it's rather high-pitched.
