Odd thing happened with my 2 week old truck today

Take it by the dealer, explain what happened and let them scan for any history codes. I have a '15 Trail and never had any check lights come on, no matter how hot or cold it was.

Are all the tires at the same PSI? The ABS could sense differing tire RPMs especially since you got larger tires. Best to bring it in somewhere to plug in the ODBII reader to see the error code.

I took it to nearest dealer and explained to them what was occurring the tech worked on it and didn't see any codes pop up. So without the vehicle throwing codes there's no way to track it down. So they said next time you get it and you can drive it back and dont turn off the car, maybe then they can see what's up.

I low key have anxiety about electrical/electronic gremlins from previous experiences with my cars in the past so this has my anxiety level notched up.

I run my truck often in temps well over 100. Never have a problem.

Well, consider yourself lucky; there have been many here who have experienced temperature created or sudden power disconnect/interruption MB-ECU anomalies over the last five years, myself included!

rig, cheers

How do you know that they are temperature related? ...Mark

Checked the vehicle with 'Tech-Stream' tool, No codes throne, pulled MB-ECU fuse for 10 seconds, replaced fuse and all icon warnings on instrument cluster cleared more than a week ago. And the fact that truck was left, un-used, in the parking lot with all windows tightly closed (w/temperatures at 98-99 deg F. ambient/outdoors) for four days when this first happened... don't need to prove that the temp caused any of this, but all things considered... not an unreasonable theory!

Not unreasonable, but a theory. I have lived almost my entire life in Phoenix. There are around 4 million people in the metro Phoenix area. Of those, there has to be 2 million vehicles that have some sort of computing device in them. I am not sure where you live, but here 98 degrees is a nice cool day in the summer time. I have wrenched on cars for all of my adult life, although my profession was as a firefighter (a whole other heat story). That 122 that I posted was the outside, ambient temperature and, while that temp is kind of rare, anything from 110 to 117-118 is quite common every summer. We just don't see heat related computer failures in vehicles. In fact, this thread is the first time that I have ever heard of it...Mark edit: Sorry I see that you are in NJ...another edit: I see that you are a union member. Very odd the tech couldn't pull up codes, it should have stored them. Maybe he was lazy and just used a generic scan tool versus tech stream and advanced diagnostics?

Get Carista and the App, there is 30 days free fort advanced diagnostics.
https://www.amazon.com/Carista-Bluetooth-Adapter-iPhone-Android/dp/B00YVHGTBM

It will pull ABS codes. My battery died and 4 months later I got Carista and the code was still stored, low power on ignition circuit to ABS module.

Hi Mark,

Over the last six yrs, I've owned a 2012 LE (my last one was a 3'rd gen SR5), but I've had some problems with this one. Trouble is... the dealership is too lazy to earn their reputation as one of the Best, most reliable vehicles on the road today! When I started having warning icons/lights appearing on my instrument cluster, they refused to work on or check it because I had installed a set of 'PIAA 520' fog-lights on the bull-bar! Mind you, I had just purchased the truck special order (due to the color Bliz-pearl) in cash, and that wasn't the first vehicle that I bought from them!

Long story short, the local (private) shops admitted that they weren't equipped to perform diagnostics on the truck because they didn't have the software yet to do any analytics on the truck! So I was on my own! It took a while, but I finally got it figured out; I'm an electrical specialist in my field now, and had been when I worked as an auto-electrician, so I wasn't afraid to roll-up my sleeves, just under-informed with my new truck!

I've spent the last six years, since I joined this forum, trying to help guys/gals who may have been treated the very same way! This is not only a modification website, but also, a tech-support forum, so I try to do the research that they need because I know how it feels to buy a new vehicle; only to have it's manufacturer take the vehicle in and then keep it for three weeks because their having their "Experts" flown in to perform some HIGH TECH Analytics lol...which is b___ S___!

So I've spent a considerable amount of time buying ALL of the wiring diagrams for these guy's vehicles (2010 to 2016); as they become available, and going through my notes because these trucks aren't really new, only recently built, so if a member has a problem, the trouble isn't new, just new to them! Nice talking to ya Mark, 'Best to you',

We share the same goals of wanting to help those that aren't necessarily mechanics. I have only ever bought 2 new vehicles in my life, this one and a 2014 VW Beetle tdi, which I only had for 3 years before they bought it back from me. Thanks VW! That was also the money that I used to buy the 4Runner. I do not like or trust anyone else touching my vehicles, especially dealerships. When my free service is done in April, they will not ever see my truck again, except for major warranty work. I am a longtime member of a Dodge Cummins forum, where just about everyone works on their own truck. Because of this, it takes me a while to realize that on many forums, especially on newer vehicles, that there are many who aren't mechanics and are at the mercy of dealerships or other mechanics. I learn as much or more than I contribute in most cases, enjoy the holiday...Mark

Live in the valley myself. Which is why I questioned their logic as well.

Just to update, ever since I had those 2 occasions where I had the lights come on it had not come back. Even went 500+ Mike calling trip this weekend with 20 miles of off-road in and 20 out and had no issues.

Just to share some info from my experiance with the 3 lights coming on ABS, Traction Control, and Brake light staying om while i was driving. Too it to the dealer many time to figure it out, they blamed it on all my mods, light bar, hood lights, wheels/tires, even on my gobi rack. All which was BS since owning these mods for over 2 years on the truck and not having problems. Found a tech there who took his time with it and found in fact it was an issue with my headlights. I had some LED JDM Astars that i ran for couple months and anytime my headlight were on and the code had not been clear lights would come back on and stay on. Light may have had some eletrical issue took them out clear the code and put the factory bulbs in. Been running it this way for the last 2 months and no light re appear. Hope this helps

That is interesting, I had heard on the 3rd gen Tacoma's the electrical system is very finicky with lights and how it can make the truck for weird things like this.

I'm not sure what anomaly mine had,

Another long time Phoenix/SW area resident who votes for "forget the heat caused it" solution. In my experience, ABS CEL issues have been caused by some directly related issues (out of OEM spec wheel/tire combos, ABS sensor issues, connection issues), or in the case of GM vehicles (I've owned two Corvettes and a 5th Gen Camaro, caused by low battery voltage issues (yup, well documented).

With the OP's vehicle being new, I'd have to lean towards the wheel/tire combo, or a connection issue with the ABS wiring. Just can't buy head being an issue since, even in my garage, summer temps in the 90's are an everyday (and I mean everyday) occurance. Parked outside, interior temps are well into the 120's, and I have never, ever had a CEL issue related to that.
