oddball question...looking for a good dashmount for my phone

Works great, stays on in the trails, easy to remove and the magnet is not noticing. As it sits next to the radio it’s not obvious to other drivers nor does it block your field of view.

Ive tried a few different mounts on my 4Runner and the best one (By far) inmy opinion is the Proclip A-Pillar mount. Its super steady on and off road and its out of the way enough that it doesnt obstruct my view but close enough that you can maintain your eye on the road if you glance at your phone. I mounted an "iOmounts" magnet to it to attach my phone which allows for easy rotation from portrait to landscape. The A-pillar location also allows for easy hidden routing of a charging cable.

That looks pretty good. Does it obstruct your speedo at all?

And you get a phone and/or mount in your face from the A-pillar airbag when in an accident...that's why I stay away from any A-pillar mount or mount anything on the windshield between me and the A-pillar if there's an airbag in it. Even if the airbag goes out the door side, better to be safe.

I've been using ProClips for the my last 4 vehicles. Unfortunately I sold the phone specific piece with my last car (took 7 month hiatus from the 4runner...buying another here shortly). I had the vent clip version and LOVED the general location, but didn't like blocking the air flow on hot summer days.
I like the idea of the scosche magnet, but have tried a different magnet before with horrible results. The phone always rotated while driving. Scosche is definitely clean looking. May have to give that one a shot. Kuda looks rad as well, but in that expensive ProClips range.

Not at all and I have a 7+. When my wife gets home Ill take a pic so you can see.
Here it is with my old Garmin attached. I can take a better pic over the weekend with my phone attached to it. I can't do that now because I need my phone to take the picture. And I'm driving a different car anyway.

I got the CD Player mount that slides into where a disc would go. And i love it. Its perfect because you can utilize the stock radio/nav and also have your phone mounted above it and see both screens.

Wish I had a pic but I took the light rail in to work today. I have two of the Scosche MagicMounts - the adhesive model with the swivel (link below). I have them attached on top of the little silver "towers" on either side of the range/temp/clock display above the center air vents. I use one for my phone and one for the control head of my FTM-400. By having two the same I can switch then back and forth depending on which is my priority. The magnets are PLENTY strong off-road. They have a CD slot version just like it that I'll use if I ever feel the need for a third mount (maybe a small tablet for APRS mapping and operations through the radio?).

I don't have that problem at all. I have the steel sheet stuck to the back of my phone. With the case on the phone (and between the steel sheet and the magnet) it stays on great on the street but will fall off off-road. So then I just slip the case off and with the steel sheet directly on the magnet it's STRONG and not going anywhere.
kinda funny but scary... same goes for all those passengers who like to lift their legs onto the dashboard... imagine taking your own knee into your face upon airbag deployment

I have this exact same mount in this exact location for my Pixel 2 XL and I love it. I'm actually going to be getting rid of my proclip tablet mount I have because my phone is big enough to do the job and I like this location much better.
The airbag only tethers behind the A-pillar so the A-pillar doesn't necessarily come off when the airbag deploys, also the Proclip mount grips onto the A-Pillar by design as well as with double-sided tape. Last point, I have it so far down the A-pillar that it would have to come off from the bottom first which the CSA's will not do.

All very good and valid points. I would guess in the event of an accident where this airbag did deploy, you would be fine with that mount there 99% of the time. There's always that chance though, and so since there are other options, I've chosen to put mounts elsewhere.

RAM Mount. Bolted one to the dash with a short arm. Pops up right next to my steering wheel. Will take pics today to post.

I use Proclip too for over decade in all my cars, for me its the best simple holder bolts low profile behind dash trim and then you can pick the actual holder attachment depending on whether you want charging or simple holder. no suction blocking window or console stays out of way but easily visible and convenient.
