OEM 16" wheels. Want a 33" tire...

Question is, is that possible? does someone make a 33" for a 16" rim? i'm a cheap SOB, my mileage is already suffering due in part to my 265/75/R16 A/T tyres, so i don't want to spend more money on wheels....

are their any options for larger tires on 16" rims at all? i could go for smaller then a 33 i suppose, i'm just trying to figure out my options... thanks!

Awhile ago, I had a set of 275/75/16's. I believe they are comparable to a 32.5 or so. They seemed pretty big with my 3" lift. And I was happy with the gas mileage. If I remember, they were Bridgestone duellers.

well i took a tape measure to the 265/75's awhile ago, came out around 31.5 or so.... they work well, but i have a an OME lift and there's a ton of room between top of the tire and fender (nearly a foot i think) and a few inches front and back of the fender wells, i don't want monster truck tires, but something that'll lift my differentials a little higher would be very nice.....

285/75r16 are normally just under a 33 and very common. 255/85r16 are just over a 33, but there's only a couple tires out there in that size.

285/75 is your best bet if you are on a budget. The 255/85/16 is a rare tire and much more expensive than the 285's.

I'm the same as you...I needed new tires...wanted 18's but to cheap to buy new rims. Anyway, 3-4 months ago I bought a set of 305-70-16...which is 33x12.5x16! They are Toyo Open Country A/T II (Made in the USA!)..very quite tire and will sling some mud. Treads cleaned the mud out way better than I thought any all terrain tire could do. I believe the warranty is good for 50,000 miles. I bought them from treaddepot.com...they had a sell then. 4 tires, tax and shipped to the door by UPS for $780.xx. Couldn't be happier...

285/75 is your best bet if you are on a budget. The 255/85/16 is a rare tire and much more expensive than the 285's.

Maybe more expensive because only the "nice" brands carry that size

But I know a BFG KM2 in a 255/85 is considerably cheaper than it's counterpart in the 285 flavor

that's a good price! too bad i know nothing about those tires.... i thought a lets say 285/70/r16 meant:
285: Width
70: height from wheel to top of tread
R16 is obvious...

So why is a 285/70 32.8 inches in diameter and a 265/75 slightly under 32? ... well some good options... we need a tire sticky thread somewhere to post up sales and good deals! thanks guys!

so i found a decent price on the size you guys recommend (it's actually 33.1) and type of rubber I've been eyeballing Discount Tires so i'll do some more digging to see if i can find a better price.... happy googling to me eh!

I'm running a 2.5 inch ToyTech lift with no body lift. At 33 inches, I doubt these would fit without some kind of lift...either a suspension or body.

You should do some searching on the web. These are some really great tires...especially for the money! I've been running these tires (their mud terrain) for several years. It's what I run on my 3/4 ton Chevy Duramax and my H2 Hummer.

XXX = the width of the tread surface area, in millimeters.
YY = the aspect ratio, expressed as a percentage of the width, and is the height of the sidewall (distance between bead and tread)
ZZ = the rim size

So a 285/70 is wider than a 265/75, but the 265/75 has a taller sidewall in relation to the width of the tire and thus is almost as large around. Here's a good converter if you're not so hot with the math (like me).

I've been considering 285's, as well. Has anyone run into trouble getting the tire shop to install 285's on our stock 16X7's?
