Bumping an old thread since many of you have already successfully done this swap. I have a 2017 and I'm aware my hazard button won't fit properly in the 2021 headunit bezel. I've seen the great write ups about modding it, but I've also been told there is a 3D printed hazard switch bezel out there that makes it much easier. Have any of you found this piece and used it? No luck finding who makes it yet. TIA
I havent seen a 3d hazard bezel but could help. The trimming of the old switch is straightforward and just be patient and test fit as you go. This was one of the best upgrades I did on 17 model.

Thanks. Mine just slipped right into place with the newer bezel. I didn't have to trim anything or swap switch bezels either. It's not snapped into place and can be pulled out, but even that takes a little effort. I'm fine with it for now, may run some tape around it to tighten the wedge.
Hey Gang, question for the experienced on my current situation. I just installed the Entune 3.0 retro swap on my 2017 4Runner. The head-unit came from a 2021 4Runner. Both vehicles were non-JBL, the new unit does not have factory Navigation but my 2017 did. The new unit is working well but I do have some issues that I want to see if they are “normal,” if I did something wrong, or did I possibly get a bad head-unit. I need to better understand what’s going on so I can work with PayPal (sold as is, no returns) if I got a bad unit. I used the Auto Harness House wire adapter with the USB connection.
1. The ECO screen option for the home screen. I assumed this wouldn’t work since my 2017 likely was never equipped to send this data to the radio. Mine doesn’t work, but I can’t get it off of the home screen and it drives me crazy having a non-working feature on my home screen. I have gone in and changed which features I want on the home screen but it keeps leaving ECO up. I’ve even tried backing down to two options (audio and phone) but ECO still shows up as one of the options. Is this normal? Is there a fix for it?
2. Steering wheel controls. Volume works fine, the up and down controls work fine, but the left and right controls do nothing. I thought I read about that before but now I can’t find it. It’s not that big of a deal but when you’re trying to scan through SXM, this feature is too handy not to have. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? Possibly a bad head-unit?
3. I haven’t been able to get the Weather to update and my understanding was this is fed by the HD Radio signal; it appears my HD channels are working though. This doesn’t really matter much since I can’t get the weather on my home screen because of the dang ECO taking up space even when it’s not selected.

1/3 : eco not sure what you are referring to. Weather might require a GPS location to be updated, could probably buy the module for it off ebay.
2: some buttons wont work 100% , I think scanning you might need to long press it. I think this worked for me in scanning regular radio stations. I knew this going in the retrofit and it wasnt a concern. I use carplay about 95% of the time.
Thanks, I’ll try that with the buttons. The Eco screen is one of your Home Screen block options. I can’t get it off of the radio’s Home Screen and since it’s not reading the mpg/trip data from my 2017, it’s just annoying to have it on the home screen all the time.
I never had that issue; could try the carista app to disable the ECO mode on the driver display (speedometer area) and that might disable the head unit one.

2020+ has wired apple CarPlay built in; I guess android auto too but I don't use that. You can use a wireless CarPlay adapter then you don't need to plug the phone in every time to use it.
Im going on 2 or 3 years with the retrofitted head unit and its a nice upgrade vs the current one you have. I use car play about 95% of the time (pandora , iheart , spotify etc) and waze/ google maps. Im use to connecting the phone via usb and am Im fine with it since I dont charge my phone at night.
Shop around on ebay , car-part and secondary markets for one. Purchase the harness adapter and its all plug n play.

I'd like to thank those who contributed here. Without this thread I'd probably still be tossing around a CTH head unit.
I sourced a used non-JBL, non-NAV unit off eBay for what I consider a good deal. After (what should have been unnecessary) cleaning, I got it prepped and installed.
I'm in this right around $600 for the whole deal and very happy with the upgrade.

21 Headunit
Just scored a basic non-nav, non-jbl from a local salvage yard for $80! Will go into an 18 SR5 Prem that had GPS. Couple very minor blemishes.
Not that I need the Toyota GPS, but anyone know if it is possible to use the GPS module from the 18 with the 21? Assuming it is a no since the 18 had an SD card inserted into the faceplate that stored the maps.
Also, are the hazard harnesses the same? The 21 unit came with all vents and a complete hazard button. Wondering if I can bypass retrofitting the old hazard.

GPS box you would probably need to source off ebay
As for the hazard button i dont think it is possible to reuse it, can always try slicing the wires. The retrofit process of it was pretty simple , just follow the recommended steps and take your time.

No, you cannot. The GPS is contained inside the main head unit on the Entune2 units. The box under it is the satellite radio receiver. That is one of the questions I asked Brian at autoharnesshouse.com Watch the install video on their website. It answers a lot of questions.
No, the harness is not the same. The plug end for the switch itself is different as they are different switches. The end that plugs into the main harness is the same. I swapped the wires onto the white plastic guide for the new unit because the contour is also different. There is a link to the thread on retrofitting the hazard switch earlier in this thread.
The harness arrives tomorrow so will tackle this over the weekend. Thanks for the tips.
One of the items I keep reading is that if I had a unit with GPS I should replace it with a 3.0 unit that also has GPS. Am I going to run into other functionality issues going from having GPS to a unit without it?
