OEM 2020+ headunit with Apple Carplay/Android Auto into 2014-2019

The harness arrives tomorrow so will tackle this over the weekend. Thanks for the tips.

One of the items I keep reading is that if I had a unit with GPS I should replace it with a 3.0 unit that also has GPS. Am I going to run into other functionality issues going from having GPS to a unit without it?

I ordered the harness without the GPS connector.

I replaced a 2.0 NAV unit with a 3.0 non-NAV unit and have had no problems. The NAV button just doesn't work on the 3.0 for obvious reasons.

Couldn't wait for the weekend and got it installed tonight. All seems to work. Have the same issues with the left and right steering wheel controls not working as expected and had some issues with the phone/siri not working at first. Updated the head unit and rebooted the phone, and all is well. Very happy with it.

Mic After Swap

After making the swap I have been trying to troubleshoot one issue. The microphone volume is really low and unusable for calls.

I tried disconnecting the battery for a half hour to reset everything. Reset the head unit, re-paired the phone, and even added some soundproofing under the headliner. I have the most recent software update from Toyota installed.

Found the hidden service menu and adjusted the hands free voice quality. And when I run the mic recording test, the playback volume is very quiet, so not the phone.

In the hidden menu I also ran the DCU test and the result was NG, but figured this failed due to it being a different head unit not made for this vehicle.

I have an aftermarket amp installed with a T-harness was going to try bypassing that to see if the amp is the culprit.

Any suggestions? Could it be because I replaced my GPS equipped head unit with a non-GPS unit? Or maybe the mic is bad and should be replaced? Or is it just the nature of the 4runner mic that many complain about?
