OEM Audio + 5th Gen 4Runner audio system

I know I know it's not off to the side like the oem + unit. That said it slots right in perfectly and only takes up like 3-4" depth of trunk space. (Fits perfectly on that small section behind the sliding cargo tray for those with it) I put two eye hooks in the back and it's straps down easily to the tie down points in the trunk. I use the strongest zip ties that HD/Lowes carries.

When I need to fold the seats down, I simple lay the enclosure flat and given the cages on the speaker protect the woofers. Most things still fit no problem. When I absolutely need more space I have a knife in the car, I quickly cut the zip ties and move it to the side. Takes 15 seconds to remove or put it back in.

There is a powered version for a bit more but I have a JL 900/5 HD tucked under the sliding cargo tray that powers the doors and dash as well.

If you've already invested in focals, don't short change the rest.

thats kinda sad to hear, theres no way these speakers in this package sound as good as focals and there really shouldnt be a reason that a small sub in the trunk would not be a "complete experience" if you ask me they don't want someone comparing better sounding speakers to the ones in their package. I wish a 8" enclosed box would be enough base for me but its clean setup and that i like

We have a shop back home so I go with the brands we carry and kendwood isn't one. I actually jus ordered my setup for the runner through a dealer accommodation package through Rockford. I normally run the higher end focal components for the doors but this time I'm doing a complete Rockford setup with an audison bit one processor. I don't care for the 3sixty rockford offers. So I'm running:

T400X4ad for the T2 components all around
T750X1bd for the 10" Power series Slim Sub

I myself am kind of an Audiophile and Ive listened to all different kinds of Stereos. In my own home, I have a Definitive setup which includes BP-9060st speakers, as well as Definitive surrounds, so I think I know what good is. Ive personally listened to their kit installed in their 4Runner at a past show, and was amazed. Ill be honest, I didn't expect a whole bunch from it, but it was VERY well balanced and clean. Very proportionate. It was well thought out. Sure its not "Booming" bass, but you get to an age (like me, 37) where quality overcomes quantity and you look for nice and clean.

Being 32 and grown up in the car and home audio business since i was young i guess i could consider myself an audiophile as well. Ill definitely agree with you when it comes to quality over quantity, I don't buy cheap audio i never have, being involved in my family business i get to choose what i want for a fraction of the retail price so that obviously makes it easier to get quality. I would love to hear this setup in person all I'm saying is if you could jus buy this sub/amp setup i would like the option to choose my mids and highs and have someone properly tune it and get more for my $

You could use this for your sub box option. I purchased the sub box option for 2 10" Pioneer B Flat speakers for my 2009 Tacoma. I never did the install because I was torn if I should sell my truck or not. He does good work and the sub box is molded fiberglass and carpeted. It fit in the rear truck cubby and looked factory. I would definitely go this route again because it was a better alternative than the Crutchfield JL Audio stealth box option. Juan was a nice guy and had great communication, and good prices. I'm sure he could come up with something stealthy for our 4runners.

Here is another option for a stealthy sub box for 5th Gens. It resembles the OEM Audio+ box, but fits a 10" subwoofer. This is for those who want to build their own system and still have it look factory. I have a nice set of 6.5" Image Dynamic Components and Rear 6.5" ID speakers that I purchased for my Tacoma that never got installed and sound exceptional, so I would love to reuse those in the 4runner. I can agree though that the OEM Audio+ stuff is a nice kit to upgrade our crappy factory audio systems. I have never been a fan of the factory system sound.

Thanks for the link. That's a decent looking box and much more reasonable than what RSG charges for their stealth 8" box in the same location.

I'm about 80% done. I have all speakers installed, the amp installed, and most of the wiring ran. I need to run the power wire, and the wires to the head unit, then ill be done. so far, at a leasurely pace, its taken me about 2.5 hours. 10-15 minutes of that was spent looking for clips that i dropped, 3-5 minutes on figuring out how to get the hatch panel off, as i started this 2 days ago, and another 15-20 minutes watching and rewatching the video today. Super easy if you have the trim removal tools. i got mine on amazon for like, $6, and they delivered same day.

I would have done it all at one time, but its literally 120 degrees out, and about 107 at night. I'm hoping to get the rest finished tomorrow night or saturday morning. i probably have about 30 minutes of work left.

#2 Phillips head, 10mm socket, 14 mm socket. I think that's all I needed so far. A precision flat head screw driver might help for a couple clips. They recommend a universal joint for the bolt for the amp, but I was able to thread it in by hand and tighten it with a ratchet.

The trim removal kit really saves your fingers. I ripped a couple panels out when I ran my coax for my cb, and it was a *****.

I skipped the part in the video about the front door panels, so im not sure if they outline this or not there, but there was no mention of it on the rear doors. On the rear doors, once you get the panel off, take off the top clips and window seal deal, then reinstall them on the door. its a million times easier than trying to finagle the clips back on while they are on the panel. Im not talking about the white clips. you will see what I mean when you get the panel apart.

Also, they tell you to remove the negative battery cable, then they tell you to move the seat forward and back to get to the seat bolts. kinda hard to do that with the battery unhooked. Just put the seat in the center, so you can reach both bolts before unhooking the battery.

I really want to finish this tonight, but I know I'm going to get talked into going to the bar after work. Its all down hill from there.

I just pulled the trigger on the full kit ... the 6x9's it says will arrive in July. The reviews of the kits and the company all seem very solid ... and I like the plug and play nature and OEM look and am willing to pay more for it. I watched the full installation video yesterday and it looks like a no-brainer overall. Has to be easier than the Raxiom system I put in my Mustang years ago ... that took two days. LOL.

The best way to describe it is that you have a much more crisp full range of sound with just enough bass. No, it will not rattle your windows but thats not what the system was designed to do but it fills in nicely.

The "Full Installation" video they posted is spot on... I watched it a couple of times and it took me about 4hrs to knock it all out by myself. Hope this helps anyone that is on the fence.

Sorry one other question, did you use any sound deadening product i.e. Dynamat etc.? Has anyone had experience with such?
