OEM CV boot too big?

Pulled my passenger side axle out to replace a damaged boot. Got everything apart, cleaned and ready. Went to install the outside boot and the boot that came with the OEM kit from the dealer is too big on the side that goes over the outer joint.

Is the outer joint on aftermarket axles smaller in diameter than OEM?

223k on the clock so I'm sure it's possible previous owner put in aftermarket axles.

Also is there a way to determine if my axles are OEM or aftermarket? I've searched pretty deep but didn't find anything definitive about size difference but I thought I recall reading aftermarket cv's are smaller and tend to bind/break when wheeling.

If it doesn't fit, it's not oem.

Also I measured the outside circumference, was 12" pretty much. I'm going to measure some FJ outer joints later but I was hoping someone on here could measure their OE joints and post it up.

I guess it's possible the wrong boot was put into the kit I got from the dealer.

Anyone know how to differentiate between OEM and aftermarket aside from the green/blue sticker around the OE shaft?

Second the other post.

Aftermarket is smaller and the axle shaft is smaller plus aftermarket has different shape burfields as well. Talk to CVJ they will let ya know what you need.

Sounds like its not an OEM axle....

Yeah, the Moog boots were tight on my OEM axles. I suspect there's quite a bit of variability in the outer housing sizing.

Was able to get measurements on my gf's FJ outboard joints. Measured 13", a full inch larger in circumference than both my axles so I was able to confirm I have afromarket on both sides. Also, the inboard tripod joint is circular on the outside.

I'll keep one of the axles in my stash when I go wheeling incase I break one on the trail.

I ordered 2 axles from CVJ earlier today so hopefully they should be here toward the end of the week.
