OEM NAVI problem: "external system not connected"

TORCH

Did a search with no real results. Picked up an OEM JBL navigation system from a 2004 4runner. Hooked it up in my truck today and everything works except when I press the 'navi' button or 'info' button I get the message: "external system not connect." Anyone know how to fix this issue? Am I missing some component? Hopefully I didn't pick up a busted unit. Thanks for any help.

I did buy this truck used so don't know everything about it but I did notice 2 antenna hook ups when installing the headunit, both work with radio I just picked the clearest signal. Is this normal?

Did you get both the main head unit and the unit that mounts in the back that holds the nav DVD?

no I did not. Got the main part cheap and didn't think about needing anything else. Any idea where I can find one? and what exactly is the name of what I am looking for? thank you for your help.

Not sure what the official name is. But if your truck didn't come originally with it, you may not even have the harness for it. It sits under the plastic fender cover on passenger side rear. There is a little pop off piece where it sits under and bolts down. Mine had it originally. If you don't have the harness, it's not worth your time IMO. Just put it on eBay.

All I have on the right rear fender is the amp that attaches to the quarter panel and the sub assembly. No box over the fender and it doesn't look like there is any wiring going to that area. Bummer. Know of an easy plug and play combo if navi stereo with adaptors that actually works with Jbl and stock steering controls?

A NAV for a 2004 4R have an external box (DVD and brainbox). If you only got the headunit, it WON'T work. You will need the rear "box" for it.

You can try to find that rear box, ( pretty sure they are very tough to find). but even if you find one, you would have to wire it and your rig doesn't have the wire harnesses for it.

So.

Throw it on fleabay and get a NAV that doesn't' need the back box. I would look for a E7006 + (E7007, 008, 009) model.

Here's some guidance: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/engin...io-accessories/63998-oem-navs-work-w-4r4.html
