So I browsed through the forums and most of them are from 2015 and prior.... has anyone installed this on newer 4runner? And does it still turn off when you open the door?

Yes, go aftermarket , you will be much happier . The range is better and the features are better

Hi. So I'm looking for a remote start for my 4runner. Did you go with the OEM start or aftermarket ? What do you suggest ?

If it’s push to start it will shut off when doors are opened. If key, it will not. There is coverage from 15 to 22 available when used aftermarket.

I was told regardless if you go oem or aftermarket, if you have a push start, it will shut off once door is open. It is super annoying and I'm still looking for a solution to this. I have the oem remote start and the range is horrible, don't really see the point in it if I have to be very close to it to work, at that point I'll just hop in and start it myself!

Aftermarket is the way to go. I have been using DEI Python for years and ill be switching to a CompuStar T13 this month. 3mi range!
